This significantly increases the amount of protection provided to vehicles as they near the sides of the road. These guide elements which are comprised of roller elements make possible a softer impact of a vehicle since usually the vehicle wheels come in contact first with the guide elements. The guide elements also provide a type of guidance of the forward-moving vehicle (18) during contact by virtue of the resulting rotation of the roller elements.
