The present invention relates to a method for measuring the humidity of a constant flowing sample gas of a combustion process. The method comprises the steps of transporting (B) the sample gas at a specific temperature above the dew point temperature to a cooling-region (24) having a temperature equal to or lower than a temperature at which water vapour in the sample gas condenses, cooling (C) the sample gas in this cooling-region (24) to at least the condensation temperature, so that water vapour condenses and purging the condensate (34), determining (D) the temperature of a position in a condensation-region (40) of the cooling-region (24), and calculating (E) the humidity content of the sample gas based on the determined temperature of the position in the condensation-region (40) of the cooling-region (24) using calibration data.

The purpose of the present invention is to reduce a load of preventing dew condensation, and to provide a highly reliable humidity detection device. In order to achieve the purpose, this humidity detection device is provided with: a humidity sensor having a humidity detection unit and a temperature detection unit; a heating resistor that heats the humidity sensor; and a heating control unit that controls a heating temperature of the heating resistor. The humidity detection device is characterized in having a target temperature storage unit that stores target temperatures of the heating resistor, said target temperatures having been determined corresponding to temperatures and humidities.

A humidity sensor arrangement for providing temperature compensated measurements. A first sensor is configured internal to a housing for the sensor arrangement, and a second sensor is configured external to the housing. The first sensor measures a first relative humidity at a first temperature, and the second sensor measures second temperature external. A processor determines saturation pressures for the first and second sensors and compensates the first sensor by adjusting the relative humidity for the first sensor to be a product of the relative humidity for the first sensor and a ratio of the saturation pressure of the first and second sensors. Further compensation may be produced by applying a time-based filter algorithm to the outputs of the first and second sensors. Temperature sensors can be compensated to determine room temperature and compensated temp can be used for precise humidity compensation.

Wet and dry bulb temperatures of a gas stream flowing in a duct (10) are measured by the use of a sample sheath (12) which extends into the duct (10) with a filter (14) at the duct end (12a) of the sample sheath (12). First and second thermocouples (16, 18) within the sample sheath (12) measure the dry and wet bulb temperatures of the sample gas, the second thermocouple (18) being surrounded by a wick (24) for this purpose. The wick (24) absorbs cooling water from a reservoir (26) which is maintained at a desired level by a level switch (28) and controlled valve (32). A blower (40) draws gas from the duct (10) into the sample sheath (12). The water content of the gas can be derived from the measured wet and dry bulb temperatures, and the water content measurement can be used in flue gas decontamination.

Apparatus for determining the vapour content of a gas/vapour mixture comprises two temperature sensing devices (4,7). One of the devices (4) measuresthe temperature of a liquid evaporating from a liquid saturated wick (5) in contact with the device. The othertemperature sensing device (7) measures the temperature of the gas/vapour mixture in which it is immersed. A cooling device (1,14) is provided for condensing some of the vapour from the gasivapour mixture to maintain a liquid supply for the wick (5).
