In a system including clock pulse data such as a network for sequencing music or multi-media data a man/machine interface is provided which can be driven either by the operator or by a motor and transmission system. The man/machine interface contains encoders for producing tempo clock data which can be varied by the operator. Based on the comparison of the output signals of the encoders, the motor is accelerated or decelerated to eliminate the difference between the outputs of the encoders. The man/machine interface can be operated in the slave mode in which tempo clock data generated in the network is used to control the speed of operation of the man/machine interface or in the master mode when the man/machine interface determines the timing. The man/machine interface is preferably a footpedal.

A haptic signal distribution system capable of distributing haptic synchronous signals includes a master haptic device and groups of slave haptic devices. In one embodiment, the master haptic device is configured to distribute haptic synchronous signals to slave haptic devices. The haptic synchronous signals, for instance, may include information relating to a tempo for a piece of music. A haptic signal distribution system, for example, allows a master wearable haptic device to selectively distribute haptic synchronous signals to one or more groups of slave wearable haptic devices via a wireless communications network. Upon receipt of the haptic synchronous signals, each slave wearable haptic device generates a series of haptic feedback having a rhythm of beats in response to the haptic synchronous signals.

The metronome serves for the optical and acoustic display of tempo, phase and the division of the phases of music pieces or movement rhythms. The above comprises a housing (1) with a display for the optical display of a movement which describes a curve (3) similar to a parabola. Means for controlling the display are further provided so that the optical movement oscillates with adjustable frequency and with additional means for the selective electrical generation of tones for acoustically marking the inflection points of the movement and for the selective further acoustic division of the time intervals between the inflection points of the movement. The display advantageously comprises a row of discrete light sources (2), arranged along a curve (3) similar to a parabola. The light sources (2) may be controlled such as to generate a moving light which oscillates back and forth along the row of light sources with adjustable frequency. Said metronome permits innumerable operational variations, however the most important advantage thereof is that the user may follow a rhythm more naturally, closely and precisely thanks to the display of the phase by an oscillation similar to a parabola and is thus carried along therewith.

In known metronomes, the rhythm is transmitted to the musician in an acoustic and/or optical manner. This has the disadvantage that especially music students have difficulties keeping to the clock pulse pre-determined by the metronome as they listen to the clock pulse of the metronome or watch the same and play their instrument according to what they see or hear. This, in turn, means that the student follows the clock pulse of the metronome in a temporally shifted manner, often resulting, after time, in a misinterpretation and/or loss of the clock pulse. The aim of the invention, inter alia, is to provide a novel device for providing the clock pulse and rhythm, by which means the cited disadvantages of known metronomes are avoided. To this end, the inventive device (1) comprises electrical driving means (5) for producing the rhythm or the clock pulse at a pre-set beat frequency and for emitting said rhythm or clock pulse as a vibratory pulse sequence (13).
