摘要: The present invention relates to an image display apparatus including a panel having repeatedly arranged RGBW subpixels and pixels including a first pixel, second pixel and third pixel, each having at least three subpixels and the first and third pixels being disposed immediately adjacent to the left and right sides of the second pixel; a controller for applying, to the subpixels of the first or third pixel, data corresponding to a subpixel of a color not included in the second pixel. When the luminance level of the second pixel is lower than a first reference level and luminance difference between the first and second pixels or between the second and third pixels is greater than a second reference level, the controller may not apply the data to subpixels of the first or third pixel. Thus, on the RGBW type panel, sharpness of the edge area can be improved.

摘要: A four-color liquid crystal display device has pixels containing first to fourth subpixels (hereinafter abbreviated as "SPs" as needed) having four different colors, respectively, arranged in a two-by-two matrix, the first to fourth SPs being placed in the first row and the first column, in the first row and the second column, in the second row and the second column, and in the second row and the first column, respectively. In displaying a font (i) subjected to subpixel rendering premised on a pixel composed of three SPs having three different colors, respectively, arranged in three columns of stripe, and (ii) specified, regarding a predetermined pixel falling on part of a character edge, that the SP in the first column takes on a tone Tx, that the SP in the second column takes on a tone Ty, and that the SP in the third column takes on a tone Tz, the liquid crystal display device specifies, for the predetermined pixel, that each of the first and fourth SPs takes on a tone which is obtained by performing rounding on (Tx × 2/3) + (Ty × 1/3) = p and that each of the second and third SPs takes on a tone which is obtained by performing rounding on (Ty × 1/3) + (Tz × 2/3) = v. This allows the four-color liquid crystal display device to appropriately display a subpixel rendered font (e.g., Clear Type (registered trademark)).

摘要: Methods and apparatus are described for sampling image data (806) that includes foreground/background color information (815) and mapping the samples to pixel sub-components which form a pixel element of an LCD display so that each pixel sub-component has a different portion of the image mapped thereto. The methods can be used with conventional color LCD displays that include pixels consisting of three non-overlapping red, green and blue rectangular pixel sub-elements or sub-components. The separately-controllable nature of individual RGB pixel sub-components is used to effectively increase a screen's resolution in the dimension perpendicular to the dimension in which the screen is striped. A scan conversion (914) process maps samples of the image data (806) to individual pixel sub-components, resulting in each of the pixel sub-components representing a different portion of the image. The color values are independently generated for each of the red, green, and blue pixel sub-components based on different portions of the image, rather than the color values for the entire pixel being generated based on a single sample or the same portion of the image.

摘要: Methods and apparatus implementing and using techniques for rendering a stroke (e.g., a line or glyph). An initial adjustment value can be calculated for the stroke, and an offset amount calculated based on the initial adjustment value, such that a minimum number of device pixels will be marked by the stroke after adjusting density values of device pixels representing the stroke. A high resolution representation of the stroke (e.g., a set of device pixels each having an initial density value) is rendered so that one or more edges of the stroke is offset from a device resolution grid by the offset amount. A length of an edge of the stroke that passes through a device pixel can be calculated, and the density value of the device pixel adjusted by a final adjustment value based on the initial adjustment value and the length of the edge of the stroke.

摘要: Remoting sub-pixel defined text. Text is remoted at sub-pixel precision in a computing environment including a terminal server and a terminal client. At a terminal server text definitions are generated. The text definitions include character definitions defining character boundaries with colors so as to be able to define character boundaries using sub-pixel precision by defining colors at the boundaries so as to make use of sub-pixel color components of LCD pixels when the characters are rendered on an LCD screen. At the terminal server glyphs of individual characters are generated. The glyphs include the character definitions including definitions of colored character boundaries. At the terminal server, the glyphs are sent to a terminal client. At the terminal client, the glyphs are blended with background color information and rendered on an LCD screen.

摘要: A user input apparatus and method for providing control for an electronic device uses contactless sensing. The user input device includes a substantially circular disk having at least one ferromagnetic plate located adjacent to a periphery of the disk and coupled to the disk. The input device also includes a magnet and a magnetic sensor adjacent to the magnet and with magnetic sensor's sensitivity axis oriented parallel to the magnet. The magnet and the magnetic sensor are situated near the periphery of the disk on a circuit board such that, as the disk is rotated, the ferromagnetic plates coupled to the disk pass within a predetermined distance from the magnet but do not contact the magnet or the magnetic sensor. The magnetic sensor outputs a signal when the at least one ferromagnetic plate passes within the predetermined distance from the magnet. The input device is also configured to enable a user to detect a rotational resistance of the disk when the ferromagnetic plate passes within the predetermined distance from the magnet, thereby providing a tactile feedback to the user of the input device.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for displaying images, e.g., text characters, on display devices which have multiple separately controllable luminance elements per pixel are described. Multiple alpha values (1004) are generated per pixel, e.g., one per pixel sub-component. Filtering (1006) is then performed to generate a filtered alpha value (1008) for each pixel sub-component. The filtering operation (1006) uses as its input multiple alpha values, e.g., 5 per pixel. The alpha values (1004) used for the filtering operation (1006) may come from neighbouring pixels (e.g. 932, 934). Accordingly, in the case where character glyphs are combined to form larger images, e.g., texts strings, the filtering operation performed on glyph edge pixels depends on the content of a neighbouring character glyph. In one embodiment unfiltered alpha values (1004) used to represent character glyphs are stored in a glyph cache. After caching, the unfiltered alpha values (1004) from multiple glyphs are combined and then the filtering operation (1006) is performed. To avoid repeated filtering of character glyphs, in another embodiment, character glyphs are padded along their vertical edges, filtered and then stored in the glyph cache. Glyphs are output from the cache as required and then combined with filtered alpha values (1008) corresponding to overlapping image portions being summed. As a result of the summing processes, correct filtered alpha values are generated along glyph edges for the combined image corresponding to multiple glyphs.
