摘要： An automated cartridge handling system or library (20, 20') for storing cartridges (22) of information storage media comprises a cartridge holder (26); a tape drive (30) movably mounted with respect to the cartridge holder; and, a transport system (40) for transporting the tape drive (30) in a drive transport path (42) between an unloaded position and a cartridge loaded position. The cartridges (22) remain stationary in the library while the tape drive is transported between the unloaded position and the cartridge loaded position. The cartridge holder library has a plurality of apertures (70) which receive cartridge holders or spines (80). To retain the cartridge (22) within the spine, each spine has resilient cartridge retaining fingers (100) formed in its interior cavity (90) for engaging a notch (104) on the cartridge. Each spine is provided with stabilization flanges (112) for stabilizing the cartridge. Each spine has asymmetrical orientation flanges (116) so that the cartridge-laden spine can be inserted into the library only in an up-right orientation.

摘要： A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for discs including a housing unit (2) housing a large number of discs, a recording and/or reproducing unit (3) on which one of the discs held within a large number of disc holders provided in the housing unit is selectively loaded and a transporting mechanism (42) for transporting the disc held within a pre-set one of the holders of the housing unit to the recording and/or reproducing unit. In the course of transporting the disc, the disc transporting mechanism detects whether or not the disc is held in the holder. The housing unit include a plurality of the holders for radially holding the discs with the disc surfaces being erected upright. The disc held in the holder is transported by the transporting mechanism in the upstanding position as far as the disc reproducing unit and there loaded. The recording and/or reproducing apparatus for disc-shaped recording media has a group designating unit for designating the information of a desired one of the recording media housed within the housing unit and the air information recorded on such desired disc-shaped recording medium and grouping the designated information for classing the large number of the recording media into several groups.

摘要： An information storage apparatus (20) used in combination with an information processing device utilizes a plurality of magnetic disk units (22). The units are individually stocked in stocking locations of a stocking device (23). The stocking locations are assigned with different address numbers. On receiving an incoming signal from the information processing device, one of the units is loaded into a disk driver (24) by a transporting device (49, 50) and a desired information data is recorded or reproduced on a flexible magnetic disk of the unit. The one of the units is thereafter returned to the initial location of the stocking device. Each of the units may have a recording medium. A recording and reproducing device (57) records or reproduces address information on the medium of the unit during transportation of the unit, so that a series of information data can be recorded over more than one units and can be recorded therefrom without false.
