    摘要: A spin tuned magnetron includes a spinner (3) which interacts with a magnetron cavity to modulate its frequency of oscillation. The spinner runs in bearings (8, 9) around a shaft (7). The lives of the bearings are a controlling factor in the life of the magnetron.
    The outer races (OR) are fixed in position relative to each other and to the spinner by spacers (13, 14) and a spring (15) arranged between an abutment (11) and a circlip (12) on the spinner. The inner races (IR) are arranged to be moveable relative to each other and to the shaft by virtue of spacers (10) and (17), a spring (16) between the inner races, and a further spring (18). A pole-piece nose (4) is arranged to be screwed down on the shaft to compress the springs (16) and (18) to provide a desired amount of axial float on the spinner. By setting the axial float the bearing load can be shared as desired and thus increase the lives of the bearings.

A problem with such a magnetron is that there is capacitive coupling between the cathode and the output coupler 51, which can lead to the coaxial TEM mode propagating along the cathode. According to the invention, additional capacitive coupling is introduced by means of axial extensions 19a etc on the ends of the set of vanes 19 etc which are not connected to the output coupler, and by choice of dimensions, the cathode is substantially decoupled from the output coupler because of the opposite polarity of the two sets of vanes.

    摘要: The invention relates to a tunable magnetron comprising a rotatable tuning element (10) projecting into a ring shaped interaction space between coaxially arranged cathode and anode systems. The tuning element (10) is driven by an electric motor (11) and produces upon rotation a periodic variation of the tuning. The tuning element (10) is situated within the evacuated space of the magnetron and the motor - (11) in situated outside said space. The drive torque of the motor is then transferred to the tuning element via a coupling (12) having two active parts situated one on each side of the evacuated envelope (17) of the magnetron. Such a coupling can only transfer a limited torque. According to the invention the magnetron comprises means for limiting the torque which can be transferred to the coupling (12), both upon starting and stopping, for example a torque limiter (21-26) between the motor (11) and the coupling (12), whereby the start and stop procedures can be performed with optimum torque. Therefore starting and stopping of the tuning element (10), for example when switching between different fixed frequencies, can be made with maximum speed (fig.3).
