    Abstract: The present invention relates to a battery management system and a method for monitoring overcurrent in a battery management system. The battery management system (100) comprises a first terminal (104) for electrically connecting one terminal (105) of a battery (102), a second terminal (106) for electrically connecting at least one of an electric load or a charger, an overcurrent protection device (110) conductively coupled between the first terminal (104) and the second terminal (106), and configured to interrupt charging or discharging of the battery (102), an overcurrent protection device controller (128) configured to trigger the overcurrent protection device (110), and a current sensor (108) conductively coupled between the first terminal (104) and the second terminal (106). A measurement circuit (118) is configured to measure a first measurement voltage and a second measurement voltage across the current sensor (108) and to output a first overcurrent triggering signal (120), and to output a second overcurrent triggering signal (122), and a first processing circuit (112) is configured to monitor whether the first overcurrent triggering signal (120) and/or the second overcurrent triggering signal (122) is output by the measurement circuit (118), and configured to control the overcurrent protection device controller (128) to trigger the overcurrent protection device (110) based on the detection of the first overcurrent triggering signal (120) and/or the second overcurrent triggering signal (122).
