Provided is an image-reading device (25) for reading an image by moving a recording medium (M) and a reading range (R) relative to each other, the recording medium (M) having the image recorded thereon and the reading range (R) being a range in which a part of the image is read, the device including: a light source (253); a light-blocking part (251) which blocks light that is emitted from the light source (253) and goes toward the recording medium (M); and a reading means (255) which reads the image recorded on the recording medium (M) by detecting light that passes through a slit (251a) provided in the light-blocking part (251) from among reflected light of light that is emitted from the light source (253), passes through the slit (251a) and enters the reading range (R) in the recording medium (M).

A facsimile apparatus is disclosed, which comprises head recovery processing means for recovering the state of ink discharge of a plurality of ink heads for different colors, mode determining means for determining a receiving mode, and control means for controlling said head recovery processing means according to a receiving mode determined by said mode determining means.
摘要:
There is disclosed a facsimile apparatus equipped with an ink jet printer in which the recording head is inspected for ink discharge failure (A) in response to a call signal, then a head recovery process (B) is effected in case of discharge failure, and the normal data reception process is started after the discharge failure is rectified (C). If the discharge failure is not rectified after repeated recovery processes, the communication is interrupted, so that the wasted communication resulting from mulfunction of the recording head can be avoided.

Method and apparatus useful for eight-level halftone thermal ink jet printing by printing with droplets of ink with volumes weighted in a binary sequence. Three binary-weighted drop generators (50, 52, 54) which are fired in sequence are useful in an eight-level, three color printing process and additionally may be employed with a clear ink vehicle drop generator (60) in order to reduce optical density of single small dots in a given pixel area to thereby reduce grainyness. This method and apparatus are also adapted for three color number printing with a chosen number of rows and columns of binary-weighted drop generators, (84, 86, 88) including untoned vehicle if desired, in order to achieve color printing of pixels having desired color and optical density.

According to a method of controlling a head in an image recording apparatus, a valve body (16) made of a diaphragm is brought into tight contact with a valve seat (15) having a nozzle hole. A pressurized ink is supplied to a contact portion between the valve body (16) and the valve seat (15). A gap formed between the valve body (16) and the valve seat (15) upon supply of the pressurized ink is controlled by an actuator (21). The pressurized ink is discharged from the nozzle hole through the gap controlled by the actuator (21).

Random printing techniques for liquid ink printers include forming masks in a random mask buffer (70) having randomly generated ON values which are ANDed by an AND circuit (74) with the information to be printed in a swath buffer (64). The randomness of the masks improves printing quality and reduces printhead signature problems resulting from printhead defects including misdirected or inoperative nozzles or jets. Masks wherein the ON values are generated with a 50% probability require two masks to print each and pixel location. Masks having the ON values generated with a 25% probability require four masks. Partial advance of the recording medium for overlapping adjacent swaths of scanning carriage type printer is possible to further improve printing by reducing printhead signature defects and "banding".
