A duct stent being capable of carrying the subminiature radioactive particle source is mainly used for the inside radiation therapy of metaphase or terminal pancreatic cancer and bile duct cancer, and has drainage function. The duct stent consists of a tubular drainage tube (1) and fixation portions (2) which are face to face with two ends of the drainage tube (1) and can fix the stent to prevent the stent from moving. The lumen of the drainage tube (1) is a drainage cavity (1.1) for draining the pancreatic juice or the bile. A particle passage (1.2) is provided in the tube wall of the drainage tube (1). The inside diameter of the particle passage (1.2) matches with the outer diameter of the subminiature radioactive particle source.

An instrument (10) for use in brachy-therapy comprises a concentric arrangement of inner and outer distensible, spherical chambers (30, 34) disposed near the proximal end of a catheter body (12) where one of the chambers (30, 34) is made to contain a radioactive material with the other chamber (30, 34) containing a radiation absorptive material, the apparatus (10) functioning to provide a more uniform absorbed dose profile in tissue surrounding a cavity created by the removal of a tumor. An alternative embodiment includes non-spherical inner and outer chambers whose respective walls are spaced equidistant over the entire surfaces thereof.

Included in this system is a microprocessor-controlled transfer device (10) and a separate catheter (12) for intraluminal treatment of a patient with a treating element advanced from a removable cartridge (40) received in the transfer device (10).
