A crystalliser for the continuous casting of blooms and billets provided with a porous insert capable of ensuring an optimal distribution of a lubricant on its internal surface, over and under the meniscus, thus improving and making the lubrication more efficient, in particular, in the area contacting the skin being formed of the billet. Advantageously, the porosity features of the insert arranged in a housing made in the thickness of the crystalliser itself, allow to considerably increase the casting speed up to 3- to 4-fold with respect to the current speeds. Thanks to the crystalliser of the invention, the risk of sticking of the skin on the wall of the crystalliser, and subsequent breakage of the skin itself with break-out of the liquid metal, is also dramatically reduced.

The invention relates to a continuous casting mould (1) for liquid metal (2), especially for liquid steel (2a), comprising an upper flange (3) arranged on the entrance region of the mould (1a) and a lower flange (4) situated beneath. The upper flange (3) and the lower flange (4) form a lubricating gap (5) and an outlet slit (8) surrounding the hot sides (6) of the inner chamber of the mould (1b), for a lubricant (7). The lubricant is thus reliably guided and supplied in order to maintain a required regular, uninterrupted lubricant flow, due to the fact that the upper flange (3) and the lower flange (4) form a lubricating gap (5) for the liquid lubricant (7), said gap being evenly defined on both sides, and that the lubricating gap (5) comprises a labyrinth-type course (11) in the flow direction (9) before the lubricant outlet (10).
