When the forward/reverse rotation switching valve (24) is switched to a forward (F) or reverse rotation position (R) during normal propulsion, the trolling device (36) controls a pattern that reduces pressure of working oil into the forward/reverse rotation switching mechanism (17) so that the pattern is different between when the forward/reverse rotation switching valve (24) is in the forward rotation position (F) and when it is in the reverse rotation position (R).

The watercraft steering system includes a plurality of obstacle detectors 45, which detect an obstacle 70. The obstacle detectors 45 are disposed at a hull 2 of the watercraft 1. Upon detecting an obstacle 70 located approximately in the travel direction of the watercraft 1, the system reverses the rotational output of the reverse reduction transmission 11 and changes the travel speed of the watercraft 1 to a travel speed according to the distance between the hull 2 and the obstacle 70 and according to the travel speed of the watercraft 1, so as to stop the hull 2.
