A railway track arrangement has a primary track and two branch tracks. A first fork one one side of the arrangement comprises fixed rails with a first flangeway gap defined between the two branch rails, and a fork on the other side comprises fixed rails with a second flangeway gap defined between the two branch rails. Only one of the first and second forks is provided with a movable element for selectively opening and closing the respective flangeway gap. This arrangement provides a forked railway track system which combines the high speed ride comfort and safety of conventional switch blade turnouts with the simplicity and low cost of fixed blade turnouts.

A rail-switching unit, functioning singly or combined with other same units as part of a track-switching unit of a track-switching system of a vehicle-guiding system, comprising a rotatable ensemble (rotatable-hub with attached switch-rails and auxiliary components) and stationary elements (main fixed-rail, branch fixed-rails and supporting structure), wherein the fixed-rails are attached to common rails and the rotatable-hub selectively rotates to allow engagement of each switch-rail simultaneously with the main fixed-rail and with a corresponding branch fixed-rail with the purpose of creating alternative continuous rail paths for the vehicles to move through the rail/track-switching unit. The mechanism is applicable to mono/multi-railed tracks, to supporting/suspended vehicles, to traditional/rail-wrapping wheels-assemblies, to diverge/merge/cross-points, and to a wide variety of tri-dimensional track-switching configurations. This invention may imply a significant technological contribution to improve traditional railways switching, to boost passengers-capacity in amusement rides, and to facilitate the definitive implementation of revolutionary rapid mass-transit systems.

A turnout for a railway track having a raised track surface to provide a path along which the wheels of a train can travel from one railway track to another. The raised track surface is of a sufficient height such that the wheels of the train are arranged to clear each railway track being crossed. The turnout facilitates Single Line Working on a second railway track to clear a first railway track for maintenance or other purposes. Pot sleepers for supporting rails of a railway track (10) and a method of installing them is also described.

The invention relates to gauge spacing apparatus for positioning pot sleepers with respect to existing sleepers of a railway track where the existing railway track is provided with a pair of turnout rails which are separated from one another by a desired gauge distance. The gauge spacing apparatus includes a first guide member which is aligned with and secured with respect to a portion of the existing rail, and a second guide member which is angled with respect to the first guide member at a turnout angle such that the second guide member is aligned with a portion of a turnout rail to allow the turnout rail to be provided with supporting pot sleepers such that the desired gauge between the turnout rails is maintained. In addition to this A-frame apparatus a rectangular gauge spacing apparatus is also provided.
