@ A flexible track (10) is held captive in an armoured face conveyor and comprises a plurality of blocks (14) arranged in longitudinally spaced relation with a pair of links (15) at opposed transverse sides of each adjacent two blocks interconnecting said blocks and forming apertures (18) between adjacent blocks. The blocks (14) have side projections (16) and the links (15) have corresponding apertures which are of slightly greater dimensions longitudinally to permit a small amount of longitudinal movement (end-float) of each block (14) relative to its two pairs of links (15). Each block has a vertical aperture (22) through its body, the apertures (22, 18) in the blocks and between the end faces (20, 21) of adjacent blocks being adapted to receive a tooth (25) of a toothed wheel (26) mounted on a machine movable along the conveyor. The aperture (22) in the block (14) has end faces (23, 24) and the profile of said end faces (23, 24) and of the end faces (20, 21) of the block where the teeth of the driving wheel engage an aperture (18) are of involute form and mirror image reversible. The armoured face conveyor is formed of a longitudinal series of line pans - (30) connected end to end and having a furnishing which includes a longitudinal channel to guide and locate the mining machine relative to the armoured face conveyor. Zwecks Sicherstellung des einwandfreien Zusammenarbeitens desTreibrads (2) der Zugmaschine mitdergelenkartig und ausschwenkbar an der Trasse des Förderers befestigten Zahnstange (3) mit Bolzen (8) und oberen und unteren Leisten (11,12) weist ein Führungsstück (1) einen Außengleitschuh (6) und einen Innengleitschuh (7) auf, wobei der Abstand zwischen den Gleitschuhen (6, 7) angenähert gleich dem Durchmesser der Bolzen (8) der Zahnstange (3) und deren Höhe angenähert gleich dem Abstand zwischen der oberen Leiste (11) und der unteren Leiste (12) der Zahnstange (3) ist. Der Innengleitschuh (7) des Führungsstücks 1 ist unmittelbar an dem Gehäuse (15) der Zugmaschine (16) zu beiden Seiten des Treibrads (2) befestigt. A rotary trench cutting or rock milling saw (12) unit is supported on a head (18) for movement about two mutually perpendicular axes (50,62). The head is adapted for pivotal mouting on a backhoe boom (20) or similar positioning structure. Rotary rock cutting wheels are driven by a hydraulic motor and a support vehicle (24) for the saw unit includes a hydrostatic drive system with a variable displacement hydraulic pump driving variable displacement track drive motors which may be set in a slow speed operating mode for trench cutting operations or a high speed mode for tramming between work sites. A constant rate of power input to the saw unit is maintained by sensing saw drive motor supply pressure and adjusting tract drive motor supply pump displacement to maintain a constant feed or rock cutting rate. The apparatus includes hydraulically operated actuators for rotating the saw unit and its support boom about a vertical axis (40) with respect to the apparatus undercarriage, elevating the boom with respect to the undercarriage, and moving the saw unit about three mutually perpendicular axes (40,50,62) with respect to the support boom. Each of the actuators includes a control valve which may be selectively positioned to operate the actuators in reverse directions, lock the actuators in a predetermined position, or permit the actuators to oscillate or rotate the saw unit with respect to the various positioning axes of rotation when the saw unit is confined in a trench.
