    摘要: A vortex brake (4) for a liquid drainage system has a vortex chamber (5), an inlet section (6) and an outlet (12), wherein liquid can flow into the inlet section (6), through this into the vortex chamber (5), through this and out through the outlet (12). The vortex chamber (5) has a side wall (9), following a conical face, and a base wall (11). The conical face has a cone axis (10), and the outlet (12) is located at an apex of the conical face. The inlet section (6) has side walls (14) and a bottom wall (15) that extend mutually in parallel in a direction of flow (16) in the inlet section (6), and a ceiling. Said ceiling having a converging ceiling portion, which extends between a first and a second end of the ceiling portion, and which, in said direction of flow, extends converging towards the bottom wall (15).

    摘要: A fluid flow control valve, especially for severe service, e.g. gas and oil power application, comprises a plurality of vortex chambers (9) through each of which fluid flows in substantially vortex fashion between an inlet channel (8) and a pair of opposed outlets (10, 11). Fluid enters each vortex chamber (9) from its associated inlet channel (8) in a substantially tangential direction wherein it splits into two flowpaths, each having both radial and axial components, leading to respective ones of the outlets (10, 11). The dual vortex outlet arrangement serves to further reduce the noise and erosion problems associated with severe service valves.

    摘要: A miniature non-return valve comprises a circular recess (7) with an inlet (3) at its centre, an annular groove (17) coaxial with the recess and communicating with the recess at a number of points (9) within the groove, and an outlet duct (19) communicating with the groove. Fluid entering the inlet passes through the recess, the annular groove and the outlet duct substantially unimpeded, whereas fluid entering the outlet duct forms a vortex in the recess so that flow of that fluid to the inlet is inhibited. Control fluid may be fed into the recess to initiate or enhance formation of the vortex. The inlet and the circular recess may be provided in first and second substrates (1,5) respectively, and the annular groove and the outlet duct may be provided in a third substrate (15),all by a micromachining process, the substrates being bonded together in a stack. The substrates may be formed of silicon.

    摘要: A vortex amplifier (1) functions as a choke valve to control flow in a flow line from, for example, a gas or oil well. The vortex amplifier (1) is arranged in the flow line (2, 3) such that flow passes radially through the vortex amplifier to emerge at an axial port. A control flow is introduced tangentially into the vortex amplifier along a line (4) by a pump (5). The pump (5) is regulated by a transducer (7) responsive to signals generated by the flow in the flow line (3).
