The purpose of the present invention is to provide a clutch seal capable of increasing the durability of a membrane section, which is a component of the seal and is obtained from a rubber-like elastic body. Additionally, the purpose is to provide a clutch seal capable of limiting the accumulation of working fluid on the concave surface of the membrane section. Said purposes are achieved by a clutch seal, which: is a ring-shaped seal interposed between a clutch plate and a piston for pressing the clutch plate in a dry clutch; has a middle ring that is fixed to the piston between an outer ring and an inner ring that are fixed to the clutch housing; and has membrane sections between the outer ring and the middle ring and between the inner ring and the middle ring, respectively, the membrane sections being obtained from rubber-like elastic bodies. The clutch seal is characterized in that, in the initial shape of the membrane sections, the middle ring is disposed at an intermediate position of the stroke thereof. The clutch seal is also characterized in that the straight portion of the outer membrane section has an angle of inclination oriented so that the radius decreases from a first fold back portion to a second foldback portion.

A balanced clutch system is provided for use in a transmission. The balanced clutch system includes a clutch assembly that has a clutch piston and a balance piston that cooperate with a clutch piston cavity and a balance piston cavity. Each of the clutch piston cavity and balance piston cavity receives a continuous supply of fluid and establishes a centrifugal head pressure therein, during use. The centrifugal head pressure established in the balance piston cavity contributes to a force that opposes a self-engaging tendency of the clutch assembly that is created by the centrifugal head pressure established within the clutch piston cavity.

Unter dem Einfluß einer im Schwerpunkt wirkenden resultierenden Fliehkraft verrutschen die mit Spiel in ihre äußere Führung eingepaßten Außenlamellen in eine exzentrische Lage, in der sie auf ihrem Umfang in der Führung abgestützt werden. Aus geometrischen Gründen gelangen normal zur Kraft- bzw. Verschieberichtung liegende Zahnflanken eher zur Anlage in der Führung als schräg liegende Zahnflanken. Bei hinterschnittenen Zähnen (7) der Außenlamelle befinden sich die unterstützenden Zahnflanken (10) in Kraftrichtung gesehen vor dem Kraftangriffspunkt. Dadurch kommt es, bei geeignet abgestimmtem Spiel mit kleineren Spalten zwischen den Zahnflanken (10) der Verzahnung (7) der Außenlamellen und der äußeren Führung, als zwischen anderen Stellen der Umrißkontur und der äußeren Führung zu einer stabilen Abstützung der Außenlamellen, in der Schiefstellungen selbsttätig zurückgeführt werden. Da somit eine Geradstellung der Außenlamellen gewährleistet ist, kann durch sie auch ein Taumeln der umlaufenden Innenlamellen nicht angeregt werden.

A transfer device for distributing the output of transmission to front wheels and rear-wheels through a front power train and a rear power train. The output shaft (13) of the transmission is operatively connected to the rear power train. The transfer device has a drive gear (16) rotatably mounted on the output shaft of the transmission and engaged with a driven gear in the front power train, a fluid operated multi-plate friction clutch (60) having a drive drum (61) and a driven drum (62). The driven drum is secured to the drive gear and the drive drum is secured to the output shaft. A piston (67) is slidably mounted in a piston chamber and operated by oil supplied to a piston oil chamber (69) for engaging the drive drum, with the driven drum. A centrifugal force oil chamber (75) is formed in the fluid operated clutch opposite to the piston oil chamber (69) and is supplied with oil through an oil supply passage having a check valve so as to maintain oil pressure in the centrifugal force oil chamber in the absence of centrifugal force.

Axial-spaced apertures (104) permit fluid communication from the annular chamber (100) to each pair of plates (84, 86) in the disc pack (82).
