A process of transferring heat from a first medium to a second medium is provided. The process comprises: (a) rotating an amount of a compressible fluid about an axis of rotation such that the fluid is compressed in a direction away from the axis of rotation to provide a compressed fluid; (b) during at least part of the compression of step (a), transferring heat from the fluid to the second medium; (c) returning the compressed fluid towards the axis of rotation; (d) expanding at least part of the compressed fluid to provide an expanded fluid; and (e) conveying the expanded fluid to step (a); wherein step (b) comprises condensing at least part of the fluid to a liquid and transferring heat of condensation from the fluid to the second medium and step (d) comprises transferring heat from the first medium to the fluid. An apparatus associated with the process is also provided.

The present invention envisages a hybrid absorption-compression chiller comprising: a vapor-compression system providing refrigeration effect in a primary evaporator (102a) by extracting heat from a medium to be cooled in a condensed primary refrigerant, and a vapor-absorption system in operative communication with the vapor-compression system for receiving primary refrigerant vapors via a compressor (104a), these vapors are cooled by a condensed secondary refrigerant in a secondary evaporator (106a) to provide cold condensed primary refrigerant which is recycled to the vapor-compression system. The hybrid absorption-compression chiller of the present invention is energy-efficient and provides a higher COP in comparison with the conventional chillers.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zur Kompression, Expansion, Volumenänderung, Verdrängung eines fluiden Arbeitsmediums, das zumindest teilweise aus Gas besteht, wobei die Vorrichtung umfasst: mindestens ein Volumen, das eine Flüssigkeitsmenge einer Flüssigkeit und ein Teilvolumen mit einem Arbeitsmedium umfasst; Volumenbegrenzungselemente, die das Volumen begrenzen und die derart ausgebildet sind, dass ein oder mehrere Durchlässe während einer Kompressions-, Expansions- oder Verdrängungsperiode ein Hinausströmen von maximal einer vorgegebenen Teilmenge der Flüssigkeitsmenge ermöglichen. Während der Kompressions-, Expansions- oder Verdrängungsperiode führt die Flüssigkeitsmenge eine Rotation um eine Rotationsachse aus, wobei die Volumenbegrenzungselemente eine ringförmige Strömung der Flüssigkeitsmenge um die Rotationsachse zu unterbinden, und ist durch eine Verlagerung mindestens eines der Volumenbegrenzungselemente das Volumen in seiner Gesamtgröße veränderbar.
