Die Lichtquelle ist als flächenhafte Lumineszenzfolie ausgebildet, welche in verschiedenen Farben durch unterschiedliche Wechselfelder im Bereich von 50 Hz bis 10 KHz mit einer Wechselspannung von 10 bis 250 Volt in den Farben grün, gelb, blau und weiß anregbar ist. Als Lichtquelle für ein Sensitometer wird eine in einer Ebene liegende und in zwei Farben anregbare Lumineszenzfolie verwendet.

High performance, high contrast radiographic films exhibit visually adaptive contrast when imaged in radiographic imaging assemblies comprising an intensifying screen on both sides. These films having at least two silver halide emulsions on each side of a film support, and the emulsion closest to the film support on each side includes chemistry to control crossover and has higher photographic speeds than the other emulsions. In addition, the films can be rapidly processed to provide the desired image having visually adaptive contrast, i.e. the upper scale contrast is at least 1.7 times the lower scale contrast. Thus, dense objects can be better seen at the higher densities of the radiographic image without any adverse sensitometric changes in the lower scale densities. These films are useful for general purpose, high contrast radiographic imaging.

The method comprises the steps of exposing a photographic image forming medium by scanning by a light beam, and developing the photographic image forming medium to form an image, wherein the diameter and the intensity of light beam are controlled so that the diameter and the intensity satisfy the following relations (1), (2) and (3) within the range of the reflection optical density of an image to be formed after developing of from larger than 0.8 to 3.0;(1) the value of α is substantially the same as tha vlaue of β when α = Id1 x Dd12 and β = I'd1 x D0.8, and(2) Dd1 wherein Id1 and Dd1 are each intensity and diameter of light beam to form an image having relection optical density of d1; D0.8 is the diameter of light beam to form an image having density of 0.8; I'd1 is intensity of the light beam to form an image having a density of d1 when the diameter of the light beam is fixed at D0.8; d1 is reflection optical density of image of larger than 0.8 and not larger 3.0 and d2 is reflection optical density of image of larger than d1 and not larger than 3.0.

A system for optimizing the printing of photographs. For color prints, a piece of photography paper (60) is progressively and sequentially exposed to varying amounts of light of the primary colors, developing a color matrix (70) on the paper. A neutral grey area on the paper identifies the optimum settings for the color filters and the exposure setting for the print system. A similar technique is presented for development of black and white prints by the generation of a grey level matrix, varying as to exposure setting.
