摘要:
A fuel assembly for a light-water nuclear reactor with a square shape in the plan view and comprising a seed region, including a bundle of seed fuel elements that are arranged in the rows and columns of a square coordinate grid in a cross-section; wherein each seed fuel element has a four-lobed profile forming spiral ribs, and comprises a kernel that includes enriched uranium or plutonium; and a blanket region, surrounding the seed region and including a bundle of breeding fuel elements; wherein, when viewed in a plan-view cross-section, the breeding fuel elements are arranged in the rows and columns of a square coordinate grid, and the breeding fuel elements define a plurality of square-shaped rings surrounding the seed region; and wherein each of the seed fuel elements defines a first circumscribed diameter defined by a circle circumscribing the seed fuel element, and each of the breeding fuel elements defines a second circumscribed diameter defined by a circle circumscribing the breeding fuel element that is different than the first circumscribed diameter.

A power distribution plate (PDP) sits on top of a support plate. Control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) units are mounted on top of the PDP, but the PDP is incapable of supporting the weight of the CRDM units and instead transfers the load to a support plate. The PDP has receptacles which receive cable modules each including mineral insulated (MI) cables, the MI cables being connected with the CRDM units. The PDP may further include a set of hydraulic lines underlying the cable modules and connected with the CRDM units. The cable modules in their receptacles define conduits or raceways for their MI cables and for any underlying hydraulic lines.

A steam generator for a nuclear reactor comprises plenums proximate with a first plane, wherein the first plane intersects a bottom portion of a riser column of a reactor vessel. The steam generator may further comprise plenums proximate with a second plane, approximately parallel with the first plane, wherein the second plane intersects a top portion of the riser column of the reactor vessel. The steam generator may further include a plurality of steam generator tubes that convey coolant from a plenum located proximate with the first plane to one of the plenums proximate with the second plane.

The invention concerns a compact pressurized water nuclear reactor comprising a primary circuit integrated in the reactor vessel (10). Thus, a single steam generator (12) forms the lid of the vessel (10) and the pressurizer (30) as well as the primary pumps (28) are housed in the vessel (10); so too are the control rods (40). Finally, a venturi system (44) is also provided in the vessel (10) to circulate water in the vessel (10) in case the primary pumps (28) break down.

A support grid for laterally maintaining the relative position of elongated fuel elements within a fuel assembly for use within a core of a nuclear reactor. The grid is formed in the shape of a lattice with the intersecting lattice members defining a plurality of cells, most of which respectively support the nuclear fuel elements. The remaining cells support nuclear control rod guide tubes and instrumentation thimbles. The cells supporting the nuclear fuel elements are provided with diagonally positioned springs on two adjacent walls. The springs support the fuel elements against dimples which protrude from the opposite cell walls. The adjacent, diagonal springs in each fuel elements cell are inclined in opposite directions. The springs are formed from narrow, parallel slits in the cell wall that terminate along a line parallel to the line of intersection with the adjacent wall. The spring slits continue along that parallel line in a direction away from the spring to increase its flexure. The lattice is formed in an "egg-crate" pattern with the orthogonal members fitting over opposing vertical slits in the adjoining straps. The vertical slits are extended more than half way over the width of the straps to further increase the flexure of the retaining springs.

The present invention relates to the nuclear engineering and is designed to produce a nuclear fission chain reaction for obtaining large fluences of neutrons, gamma-ray quanta, and producing thermal and electric power. It is an object of the invention to reduce mass and improve the usage efficiency of nuclear fuel in the nuclear reactor core. The invention is essentially based on the fact that all of the fast neutrons can be slowed down, substantially without losses, to thermal energies at which they may be considered stationary when arriving at the vacuum magnetic trap as their velocity is low as compared to the velocity of the fissile material nuclei movement, and, therefore, all of them may react even at a relatively low density of the fissile material. The fissile material critical mass in the reactor core is considerably reduced (up to few grams or tens of grams). The invention ensures that great energies, (1000 megawatt and greater) can be released in the reactor core as the fission products containing more then 90 percent of the nuclear power released may be removed from the reactor core and directed to the facilities for direct conversion of their energy. e.g., into electricity. The nuclear reactor is substantially safe from the environmental standpoint as at any given time the amount of the fissile material in the reactor core will not exceed few tens of grams.

The invention refers to a nuclear reactor device and a method of constructing a nuclear reactor device. The device comprises a reactor containment (1), formed by a first wall member (2) defining an inner space (3), and a reactor vessel (6), housing a reactor core (7) and being provided in the inner space (3). Furthermore, the device comprises an upper space (10) provided above the reactor containment (1) and defined by a second wall member (11). The first wall member (2) and the second wall member (11) have, seen in a horizontal section, an essentially identical cross-sectional shape and form an essentially common cylinder.
