A fuel cell system for air vehicles, wherein the fuel cell system comprises: a fuel cell, an oxidant gas system for supplying oxidant gas to the fuel cell, an altitude sensor, and a controller; wherein the oxidant gas system comprises an air compressor and a bypass flow path bypassing the fuel cell; wherein the bypass flow path comprises a bypass valve; and wherein, when the controller detects an altitude increase measured by the altitude sensor, the controller increases a rotational speed of the air compressor, and the controller increases an opening degree of the bypass valve.

摘要: A fuel cell system 1 comprises an electrochemical fuel cell stack 5 for generating electrical power to a service load 11. A load circuit 12 is switchably coupled to the fuel cell stack 5 for periodically receiving a discharge current from the fuel cell stack during an energy dissipation phase, such as an air stall operation for conditioning the fuel cell stack. A protection circuit 16 is coupled to the load circuit 12, configured to monitor a cumulative energy dissipation level during an energy dissipation phase and to abort the energy dissipation phase if the cumulative energy level reaches a predetermined threshold. In this way, lower specification resistor components can be used in the load circuit 5 for stack conditioning. A method of operating the fuel cell system and the protected electrical load device itself are also claimed.
