Abstract: PURPOSE:To form the uniform and normal chilled structure, by shifting back and forth the high density heating energy over the whole length to melt uniformly at the time of chilling the cast iron surface to the specific length, cooling and solidifying there. CONSTITUTION:At the time of forming the chilling layer 5 over the length (l) on the surface of the cast iron member 1, the torch 2 for TIG arc is arranged above the chilling range and while going back and forth over the whole length toward length direction for the treating range, the molten pool 4 is formed by the arc 3. At the time of forming the uniform molten pool 4 to the prescribed depth over the whole length in the necessary range, the current to the torch 2 is cut to eliminate the arc 3 and the molten pool 4 is solidified at the same time over the whole length. Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide excellent resistance to heat and resistance to wear at a low cost, by a method wherein an allowed layer consisting of a specified composition containing an Ni group alloy is alloyed integrally with a valve body on the valve face of the valve body formed by an austenite series heat resistant steel. CONSTITUTION:In a valve body 1 formed by an austenite series heat resistant steel, a shank part 1A and a bevel part 1B are formed integrally with each other, and a face surface 2 making contact with a matching valve seat material is formed to the bevel part 1B. In this case, an Ni group alloy is placed on the valve face 2, and is irradiated from a position above the Ni group alloy with high density energy. The Ni group alloy and the surface layer of its underlaying surface layer are rapidly molten and rapidly re-coagulated to form an alloyed layer 3 consisting of 70% or more Ni, 14-18% Cr, 5-10% Fe, 2-6% Fe, 2-6% Ti, 10.4-1.0% A, and remaining percent inevitable impurity. Thereafter, heat treatment is applied on the alloyed layer 3 at a temperature of 750-850 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve anticorrosion and wear resistance by forming an alloyed chilled hardened layer in which one kind or two or more kinds of Cr, Ni, and Mo are contained by a specific quantity in total and chilled, on the inner peripheral face of the bore part of an ordinary cast iron cylinder block. CONSTITUTION:An alloyed chilled hardened layer 3 in which one kind or two or more kinds of Cr, Ni, and Mo are contained by 1-15 wt% in total and chilled, is formed on a part in the bore part of a cylinder block 1 the base material of which is an ordinary cast iron. This hardened layer has a high hardness while being excellent in anticorrosion, thereby, improving the anticorrosion and wear resistance when used in a corrosive environment due to formic acid, sulfuric acid, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and heat resistance of a valve seat part by forming a cast iron layer contg. metallic elements having the higher tendency to the formation of carbide than Fe on the surface of the part corresponding to the valve seat part under specific conditions and forming the same into specific structure. CONSTITUTION:1 Or >=2 kinds of the metals (Cr, Mo, W, etc.) having the higher tendency to the formation of carbide than Fe or the alloys thereof are disposed on the surface of the part corresponding to the valve seat part of a cylinder head body consisting of a cast iron. High-density energy is irradiated thereto from above to quickly melt the metals or alloys. The molten metals or alloys are quickly cooled to resolidify by which the alloyed cast iron layer is formed to have 0.2-10wt% total concn. of the above-mentioned metallic elements. Such alloyed layer is then heated to a temp. region above the A1 transformation point and below the solidus liquid line temp. and is subjected to a cooling treatment to convert the base to pearlite or the structure essentially consisting of pearlite (about >=50%). The alloyed cast iron layer of 250-400 Hv hardness consisting of the structure in which 2-15% residual cementite exists and lump graphite is crystallized is formed to >=0.2mm depth.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply and easily produce an inexpensive piston having excellent resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue by disposing Cr or Mo on the prescribed section of the cast iron piston and irradiating high-density energy thereon then subjecting said section to an adequate reheating treatment. CONSTITUTION:The Cr and/or Mo or the alloy thereof or the alloy with Fe is disposed onto the surface of a hot spot part 4, where the resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue is requested, of a piston head part 2 of a rough shape material 1 for the cast iron piston. The high-density energy such as laser is then irradiated thereon from above to form the alloy layer by quick melting- quick resolidifying. The alloy layer is thereafter subjected to the reheating treatment to heat said layer for 1-10min at 800-1,050 deg.C. The alloyed cast iron layer which contains 0.3-2.0wt% Cr and/or Mo and is dispersed and crystallized with block graphite in the pearlite base or the base essentially consisting of the pearlite base is thereby forming to the above-mentioned section down to >=0.2mm depth from the surface. The cast iron piston having the improved resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue in the required section and a long life for an internal combustion engine is thus obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and durability under high surface pressure and high-temp. conditions of the titled material obtd. by alloying Ni and hard nitride such as TiN to the surface of an Al alloy base material there by forming the composite phase of the hard material into the matrix. CONSTITUTION:Ni and nitride of 0>=1 kinds among TiN, ZrN, VN and TaN are coated by a thermal spraying method on the above-mentioned surface of the part where wear resistance is required and thereafter high-density energy such as laser beam or TIG arc is irradiated on the surface of the coating layer to quickly heat the surface in a short period. The Ni+hard nitride coating layer and part of the Al alloy base material under the same are thereby partly melted and alloyed, by which the Ni-Al intermetallic compd. phase and hard nitride phase are crystallized into the Al alloy matrix. The composite layer is formed by adequately setting the above-mentioned irradiation conditions in such a manner that the average concn. of Ni in the alloyed layer (composite layer) attains 10-40wt% and the average concn. of the hard nitride phase attains 0.5-30%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the generation of cracks in inter-valve parts, etc., by removing chillers from a casting mold and allowing spheroidal or mass graphite to precipitate when the temp. of a rough shape material for a cylinder head cools down to a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The chillers 4 are installed to the parts of the casting mold corresponding to the respective surfaces in the inter-valve parts 10 between suction valves and exhaust valves as well as parts 11 between the suction valve and chamber and the parts 12 between the exhaust valves and chamber of the cylinder head. The chillers 4 are removed from the casting mold when the temp. of the rough shape material for the cylinder head decreases to 1,000-1,050 deg.C on solidifying of the molten metal after pouring. The casting is rested as it is to decompose the cementite and to allow the spheroidal graphite or mass graphite to precipitate. The generation of the cracks in the inter- valve parts, etc., is thereby decreased.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve toughness and strength by chilling the surface parts in inter-valve parts and inter-valve and chamber parts to a specific depth and heating the chilled parts to a specific temp. thereby decomposing cementite. CONSTITUTION:Chillers 4 are installed to the parts of the casting mold corresponding to the respective surfaces of the inter-valve parts 10 between the suction valves and exhaust valves as well as the parts 11 between the suction valves and chamber and the parts 12 between the exhaust valves and chamber of a cylinder head. The surface parts in the inter-valve parts 10 and the inter- valve and chamber parts 11, 12 are chilled to at least >=0.2mm depth by casting. The chilled parts of the cylinder head taken out of the casting mold are heated to 900-1,050 deg.C to decompose the cementite to and to allow spheroidal or mass graphite to precipitate. The toughness and strength are thereby improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the seizure resistance and wear resistance of a pinion shaft by forming a surface-alloyed layer contg. a specific concn. of Mo on at least the sliding surface of the pinion shaft to be fitted to the pinion gear. CONSTITUTION:The surface-alloyed layer contg. Mo at 40-70wt% average concn. is formed on at least the sliding surface to be fitted to the above- mentioned pinion gear of the pinion shaft which fits and supports freely rotatably the pinion gear of a differential gear for a vehicle. Such alloyed layer is formed by coating the surface of the pinion shaft with Mo to a pre scribed thickness by a thermal spraying method, etc., then irradiating high- density energy such as TIG arc thereto to melt the coating layer and the surface part of the pinion shaft thereunder. The alloyed layer may be further incorpo rated therein with 5-20% at least one kind of Ni and Cr. The pinion shaft formed with the surface-alloyed layer which is securely bound and has the substantial resistance to seizure and wear is thus obtd.
