    摘要: NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I (R is 1W8C alkyl; n is 1W3).
    EXAMPLE: p-Cyanobiphenyl-[p-(β-ethoxyethyl)]-benzoate.
    USE: A liquid crystal composition. A liquid crystal composition having high N-I point, high dielectric anisotropy, improved compatibility with other liquid crystals, not raising viscosity even if being blended with other liquid crystal compound is obtained.
    PREPARATION: A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with an acetylating agent such as acetyl chloride to give a compound shown by the formula III. The compound shown by the formula III is reacted with sodium hydroxide, hydrolyzed, to give a compound shown by the formula IV, which is reacted with an alkylating agent in an organic solvent (e.g., THF) to give a compound shown by the formula V. This compound is then oxidized with an oxidizing agent to give a compound shown by the formula VI, which is reacted with an equimolar amount of 4-cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyl, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
