PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a transfer rate even with an increased number of recording/reproducing layers of an optical recording medium.SOLUTION: When recording information on an optical recording medium 10 having a plurality of recording/reproducing layers, a first recording operation of recording information by irradiating a first recording/reproducing layer 14 with a first recording/reproducing beam 170A and a second recording operation of recording information by irradiating a second recording/reproducing layer 34 with a second recording/reproducing beam 170B are simultaneously carried out, and thereby the recording or reproducing is simultaneously carried out on the first and second recording/reproducing layers 14 and 34 having the same lamination order from the center of the optical recording medium 10 in a direction of thickness.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of recordable/reproducible recording/reproducing layers in a method of optical recording/reproducing on an optical recording medium having a servo layer and a recording/reproducing layer, even with a simplified configuration of an optical pickup.SOLUTION: When recording information on an optical recording medium 10 having a servo layer 18 and a recording/reproducing layer, a first recording operation and a second recording operation are carried out in a manner that: the former for recording information by irradiating a first recording/reproducing layer 14 with a first recording/reproducing beam 170A while performing tracking control by irradiating the servo layer 18 with a tracking beam 270A, and the latter for recording information by irradiating a second recording/reproducing layer 34 with a second recording/reproducing beam 170B while performing tracking control using the tracking beam 270A and the servo layer 18, which are commonly used for the first recording operation.

A write-once optical recording medium and a method and apparatus for recording management information on the recording medium, are provided. The recording medium includes at least one recording layer and SRR information on the recording layer. The SRR information pertains to at least one SRR and includes a header, an SRR entry list, and a terminator. The SRR entry list includes a plurality of SRR entries, each of the SRR entries pertaining to an SRR and including at least one status area for storing therein session start information.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform tracking servo using a recording signal in a grooveless optical disk.SOLUTION: Trial writing is performed on a plurality of recording conditions, a recommended recording condition which can acquire excellent playback signal quality and tracking error signal quality from a trail writing signal is determined, and recording is performed by using the recommended recording condition. A recording condition determined by an OPC executed previously to recording is used to perform recording so as to make a signal adjacent to at least two tracks or more, and when tracking error signal quality obtained from a recording signal coincides with a targeted value of tracking error signal quality of a corresponding medium, the determined recording condition is used to perform recording.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the work efficiency of master disk strategy adjustment and prevent waste of materials relating to manufacturing of an optical disk while preventing degradation in the quality of the optical disk as a final product.SOLUTION: Progressing once to creation of an optical disk recording medium, a target value of an evaluation value of a master disk is calculated from the difference between the evaluation value of the master disk and an evaluation value of the optical disk recording medium, and then master disk strategy adjustment (strategy adjustment for driving the evaluation value of a master disk recording signal into the above-described target value) is carried out so as to make the evaluation value match the target value. The number of times that the optical disk recording medium required for the strategy adjustment is created can be suppressed to at least one time. Thus, the work efficiency of master disk strategy adjustment can be improved and waste of materials relating to manufacturing of the optical disk can be prevented. At this time, since the strategy adjustment is performed in reflection of the evaluation value of the optical disk recording medium actually created, the signal quality of the optical disk recording medium can be accordingly improved.
