Abstract: PURPOSE:To conveniently obtain a substance soluble in an org. solvent in high yield by dipping a sample body contg. a substance to be extracted soluble in the org. solvent through a porous membrane. CONSTITUTION:The sample body 1 contained in a porous membrane 3 consisting of a polyimide film, etc., and an org. solvent 2 are supplied into an extraction vessel 4. The amt. of the org. solvent is so regulated that the sample body 1 is sufficiently immersed. The extraction vessel 4 is heated by using a heater 5, cooling water is passed through a Dimroth condenser 6, the org. solvent in the extraction vessel 4 is refluxed and the substance to be extracted in the sample body 1 is extracted into the org. solvent. The substance dissolved in the org. solvent is permeated through the porous membrane 3. The substance insoluble in the org. solvent is incapable of being permeated through the porous membrane 3. Consequently, the substance in the sample body 1 soluble in the org. solvent and the substance insoluble in the org. solvent are separated by the porous membrane 3.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To convert enzymatically only one steric configuration of racemic modification of N-carbamoyl-α-amino acid obtained easily from hydantoins or α-amino acid to hydrantoins, and further to separate and to collect unused antipode.
CONSTITUTION: Only one steric configuration of racemic modification of an N-carbamoyl-α-amino acid shown by the formula I (R
    1 and R
2 are alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, or R
    1 and R
2 form one unsymmetrical cyclic compound) is enzymatically converted to corresponding hydantoins by the use of a bacterium belonging the genus Aerobacter, Agrobacterium, Bacillus, corynabacterium, etc., to give an optically active hydantoin [e.g., (R) form shown by the formula III, etc.] shown by the formula II. Further, separated unreacted optically active N- carbamoyl-α-amino acid is subjected to ring formation under acidic conditions under heating to give a corresponding optically active hydantoin.
USE: A drug and an intermediate for drugs.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a 2,3-epoxypropyl ether useful as an intermediate for drugs, by treating an allyl phenyl ether with a specific bacterium capable of producing epoxide to give an epoxide, separating and collecting the epoxide. CONSTITUTION:An allyl phenyl ether is treated with a bacterium beloning to the genus Nocardia, capable of producing an epoxide under an aerobic condition, to produce a corresponding 2,3-epoxypropyl phenyl ether. Then, the prepared epoxide is separated and collected. Or, the compound is treated with the bacterium in the presence of a water-insoluble organic solvent, so that the epoxide can be produced much more advantageously. An aromatic ether such as allyl phenyl ether or naphthyl allyl ether, having no substituent group on the aromatic ring may be cited as the allyl phenyl ether usable as a raw material substrate.
