Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission capable of avoiding increase of shaft diameter and deflection of shafts. SOLUTION: Driving transmission by a chain 42 is performed between the shaft A and the shaft B of the continuously variable transmission, retainers 102 and 103 for keeping a distance between the shaft A and the shaft B to a predetermined distance are disposed at positions where the shaft A and the shaft B are pulled by the chain 42 in mutually approaching direction, namely at positions where sprockets 100 and 101 are disposed, the retainers 102 and 103 absorb a tension of the chain 42 to avoid deflection of the shaft A and the shaft B caused by the tension of the chain 42.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure high supporting rigidity without elongating the shaft length in a transmission in which a pair of toroidal type continuously variable transmission mechanisms are incorporated. CONSTITUTION:A pair of inner discs 12, 22 for receiving the force in the radial direction, are supported with an intermediate shaft 80. The intermediate shaft 80 has a cylindrical shape, and is supported with first posts 14U, 14L and second posts 24U, 24L at the same axial point with a center shaft 60. Since the intermediate shaft is supported with the first and second posts, the interval between supporting points is shortened, and the rigidity is high. Since there is no need of interposing a supporting member between the inner discs, the shaft length is not elongated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the lubricant feed system of a toroidal continuously variable transmission (T-CVT) requiring no extra space and not increasing the friction resistance at the time of rotation. CONSTITUTION:An input disk 30 and an output disk 24 are rotatably supported by the first bearing 28 and the second bearing 26 on a fixed shaft 18 fixed by housings 10, 14, 82 of a T-CVT 1, and a lubricant is fed to a lubricant path 48 provided in the fixed shaft 18 by lubricant feed passages 72, 146, 150, 154 passing between the input disk 30 and the output disk 24 from a lubricant pressure feed mechanism 50. The lubricant feed passages 72, 146, 150, 154 are provided by the utilization of the space between the input disk 30 and the output disk 24, thus no extra space is required, and the friction resistance at the time of rotation is not increased by a seal member of the lubricant. A pulley 70 transmitting the driving force from the outside can be fitted to the end face of the fixed shaft 18 at the optimum position.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To restrict the change of engine speed for securing comfortable constant speed traveling, when it is judged that a newly obtained target value has changed to the change-gear- ratio increasing speed side, the target value before the change is substituted as the target value to be actually used by a change-gear-ratio control means. CONSTITUTION:A belt-type continuously variable transmission 14 for a vehicle on which a constant speed traveling control device is mounted is controlled by a change-gear-ratio control means 82 in accordance with the change gear ratio obtained on the basis of the deviation of the actual input-shaft rotating speed from a basic target input-shaft rotating speed that is successively determined by a map stored in a ROM through the actual throttle valve opening and the vehicle speed. In this case, a target value changing direction judging means 84 by which it is judged whether or not the newly determined basic target input-shaft rotating speed has been changed to the change-gear-ratio speed increasing side is provided. And when it is judged that it is YES, the target value to be used by the change-gear-ratio control means 82 is substituted from the newly determined basic target value input-shaft rotating speed to the target input-shaft rotating speed before the change by a target value substituting means 86.

Since the change of the target input-shaft rotating speed Nin deg. to the throttle valve opening (required output value) theta is restricted by the above relationship for constant-speed traveling control so as to move along the line corresponding to the maximum traveling load that is supposed at the time of constant-speed traveling control, even if a load change is caused by the grade of a traveling road or the like, the change in the engine speed in the constant-speed traveling by means of constant-speed traveling control is restricted, and very comfortable constant-speed traveling can be obtained.

CONSTITUTION:The number Ne of revolutions of an engine and the input and output numbers of revolutions Nin and Nout of a continuously variable speed change gear (CVT) are read, a speed ration CTC of a torque converter (fluid joint) is then determined by a formula (3), and a volume factor C of the torque converter is then calculated from the map of a graph A. A torque ratio gammaTC is then determined by using the map of a graph B. A turbine torque Tt of the torque converter is determined according to a formula (4), and a speed ratio eCVT of the CVT is then determined based on a formula (5). In which case, a line pressure PL is determined by a formula (2), wherein k2Nout is a correction item of a centrifugal oil pressure, and k3 is a margin of a pressure. In consideration of the torque increase action of the torque converter, the PL is decided.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suitably alleviate pitch noises by providing projections and recesses on at least one of belt contact faces of a pair of pulleys for belt type continuous variable transmission, in the peripheral direction with unequal intervals. CONSTITUTION:Projections and recesses are provided similarly on belt contact faces 26, 28 of a driving side pulley 10 and belt contact faces 40, 42 of a driven side pulley 34, in the peripheral directions with unequal intervals. Even if a transmission belt 48 in which a plurality of V-blocks 52 are arranged in sequence with a constant pitch along a chain 50 is used, the spontaneous position of the V-blocks 52 sandwiched by the pulleys 10, 34 are scattered. Cycles of the V-block 52 for abutting against the belt contact faces 26, 28 of the driving side pulley 10 and the belt contact faces 40, 42 of the driven side pulley 34 are scattered, and thereby generation of pitch noises, so-called whistle tones having constant frequencies are suppressed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To flatten the frequency characteristic of a noise by varying the pit of a block through a process of suitably reversing the longitudinal direction of a link at an internode between the blocks between the nodes of fore and aft links. CONSTITUTION:Protrusions 30 and 32, where torque from a block 22 is received, are installed in opposition to each other while sandwiching the block 22. Recesses 36 are formed respectively, between the protrusions 30 and 32, to accommodate the block 22. The recesses 36 are to be offset against either one of pin holes 34 and 35 located respectively in the front and in the rear of a link 18. Generation of an uncomfortable noise can be prevented by this constitution because the noise frequency characteristic can be flattened.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the slip of a belt and distribute torque uniformly into each transmission by connecting the belt type continuously variable transmissions in parallel and connecting the input pulleys through a fluid coupling. CONSTITUTION:The captioned belt type continuously variable transmission is equipped with two continuously variable transmission parts A and B, and input and output pulleys 110A, 110B, 210A, and 210B are connected in parallel in each transmission part. A fluid coupling 120 is installed onto a connecting shaft which connects the input pulleys 110A and 110B, permitting the slip between the both pulleys. Therefore, even if a large dispersion exists in the manufacture of the belt type continuously variable transmission, in each line, said error can be absorbed, and the slip of the belt can be prevented, and a large torque can be transmitted.
