Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods for improving output of weather information, by using an amount of vertical development of convection, to improve evaluation of the degree of hazard due to convective weather. SOLUTION: A weather radar system 40 receives weather reflectivity values. A processing device 42 stores the received weather reflectivity value in a three-dimensional buffer, computes the sum of reflectivity values stored in a row 126 of cells inside the three-dimensional buffer 120, and when the result of the computation exceeds a first threshold, first hazard indication is assigned to the cells in the row. Moreover, when the computation result exceeds a second threshold, the processing device assigns second hazard indication to the cells in the row. The second threshold is a threshold for a middle degree of hazard, and the first threshold is a threshold for a high degree of hazard. A display device 44 performs weather display, based on data stored in the three-dimensional buffer. The weather display includes a display icon relating to display of hazard, when cells of the three-dimensional buffer are selected for weather display. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
