    Abstract: PURPOSE:To analyze existence of abnormality in an EGR device without generating shock caused by decrease in engine rotational speed. CONSTITUTION:An EGR valve 6 and a torque variation means, for example idling rotational speed control(ISC) valve 4 are opened to specified openings, and the engine rotational speed Ne is compared with its specified value and then trouble is diagnosed when it becomes stable. As another method, the EGR valve 6 is gradually opened, and when it is opened to a specified opening, a control quantity of the torque variation means, for example, the opening of the ISC valve 4 (its corrected quantity is also accepted) is compared with the specified value and the trouble is diagnosed. Decrease in the engine rotational speed Ne at the time of opening the EGR valve is decreased by the torque variation means, for example, increase in the engine rotational speed Ne by opening the ISC valve 4, and the shock is decreased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of an idling engine speed on a high land by connecting an air introducing passage to an annular space formed on the periphery of the rotor shaft of a super-charger consisting of a Roots pump and providing a control valve which is opened on a high load in said passage. CONSTITUTION:In a mechanical supercharger 20 which consists of a Roots pump having a pair of rotors 22 and which is provided in the intake passage 12 of an engine 10, holes for inserting rotor shafts 26 are formed on the end plate 24a of its housing 24. Due to this hole, an annular space 36 is formed on the periphery of the rotor shaft 26 in between the end face of the rotor 22 and the inside seal 30 of a bearing 28. And, ports 38 which extend in the radial direction are formed on the end plates 24a so as to introduce the air into the spaces 36, and an air introducing passage 40 in which a control valve 42 is provided in connected to the ports 38. The control valve 42 is controlled so as to be opened when a vehicle is traveling on a high land, by means of an ECU 50.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the transient knocking by closing a by-pass control valve slowly an an accelerating time of an engine when a teaching value is more than a predetermined value, and closing said valve quickly at an accelerating time of the engine when the teaching value is less than the predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:Teaching value judging means A judge whether a teaching value of an ignition timing adjusting device is more than a set value or not. Accelerating condition detecting means B detect the accelerating condition of an engine E. Control means 60 close a by-pass control valve 40 on a by-pass 30 of a supercharger 28 slowly at an accelerating time when the teaching value is more than the set value. Since in an operating condition when the knocking is generating instensely the teaching value becomes high, under such condition with supercharging pressure builds up slowly, and the transient knocking is prevented. The control means 60 close the by-pass control value 40 quickly at an accelerating time when the teaching value is less than the set value, as a result a preferable supercharging response is ensured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve drivability in restoring fuel cutout for speed reduction and prevent a rise in engine speed and the like in a cold condition by closing a control valve located in an air introduction passage through turning 'ON' an idle switch and the like in a non-fuel cutout condition. CONSTITUTION:A supercharger comprising a Roots vacuum pump is so arranged as to be freely rotatable, with the rotor shafts 22 and 23 of two rotors 21 and 40 supported on a bearing 28 within housings 50 and 51. In the aforesaid constitu tion, a circular space part 47 formed around the rotor shafts 22 and 23 and between the end surfaces of the rotors 21 and 40 and the sealed part 27 of the bearing 28, is made continuous to the atmosphere via air introduction passages 7, 8 and 48, and a control valve 9 is provided in way of said passages 7, 8 and 48. And when an idle switch is 'ON' or the number of engine revolutions is under a predetermined value in a non-fuel cutout condition, the control valve 9 is closed. According to the aforesaid constitution, drivability is improved at the restoration of fuel cutout for speed reduction and a rise in engine speed is prevented in a cold condition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the durability of a sensor and to stabilize the temp. of an element, by discriminating whether the detected parameter quantity in an operating condition is equal to or greater than a predetermined value and delaying the discrimination result by a predetermined time to perform the ON/OFF operation of current supply to the sensor. CONSTITUTION:In an internal-combustion engine wherein an O2-sensor with a heater is provided to an exhaust system, an operation state parameter quantity detection means detects the operation state parameter quantity of the engine, for example, the intake air quantity Q of the engine. A discrimination means outputs a signal to the delay means at the side of a heater OFF-means when the detected quantity Q is a predetermined value A or more and outputs a signal to the delay means at the side of a heater ON-means when said quantity Q is below the predetermined value A. The delay means at the side of the heater OFF-means delays the signal by a predetermined time when the speed of rotation of the engine is below a predetermined value B to transmit the same to the heater OFF-means to turn the current supply to the heater OFF. The delay means at the side of the heater ON-means delays the signal by a predetermined time when the speed of rotation of the engine is the predetermined value B or more to transmit the same to the heater ON-means. By this method, the life of the heater is increased and the temp. of a sensor element can be stabilized.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the unnecessary on-off action of a supercharger, by a method wherein, when the supercharger is shifted from a supercharging state to a non-supercharging state, the shifting is effected with a given delay time except a time in that the number of revolutions of an engine and a load are below their respective set values. CONSTITUTION:A device controls a mechanical type supercharger 3 mounted to a suction system 2 of an internal combustion engine 1 into a supercharging state or a non-supercharging state depending upon the operating state of an engine by means of a supercharger control means 4, e.g., a clutch. The device has a delay means 5, which when shifting is effected from a supercharging state to a non-supercharging state by means of a supercharger control means 4, effects the shifting with a given delay time except a time in which the number of revolutions and a load are below their respective set values. The delay means 5 is formed with a delay circuit 5a, a gate 5b, and a comparator c. The set value is regulated by a set value regulating means 6 so that the more higher value the temperature of an engine is increased to, the more the set value is decreased.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the consumption of a battery when a heater is energized before an internal-combustion engine is started in a control apparatus, for the heater of an air-fuel ratio sensor, which is provided with a function to energize the heater of the air-fuel ratio sensor before the engine is started. SOLUTION: A catalytic converter 60 and a catalytic converter 62 are installed respectively in the exhaust passage 54 and the exhaust passage 56 of an internal-combustion engine 10. A catalytic converter 68 is installed in an exhaust pipe 58 in which the exhaust passages 54, 56 join. A first air-fuel ratio sensor 64 and a first air-fuel ratio sensor 66 as limiting current-type oxygen sensors are installed on the upstream side of the catalytic converters 60, 62. A second air-fuel ratio sensor 70 as a concentration cell-type oxygen sensor is installed on the downstream side of the catalytic converter 68. An ECU 12 starts an energizing operation regarding the second air-fuel ratio sensor 70 whose activation temperature is low when the start of the engine is anticipated by unlocking a door.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an exhaust gas temperature measuring apparatus employing an air/fuel ratio sensor in order to eliminate a temperature sensor in view point of cost in which the exhaust gas temperature can be measured accurately without limiting the measurement conditions. SOLUTION: In an operating region where conduction to the heater in an air/fuel ratio sensor is not required, exhaust gas temperature is estimated by measuring the element impedance of the air/fuel ratio sensor. In an operating region where conduction to the heater is effected, element temperature drops when conduction to the heater is cut for a predetermined time Δt1 and the element impedance increases. Since increment ΔZ of the element impedance increases as the exhaust gas temperature decreases, exhaust gas temperature can be estimated by measuring ΔZ. Alternatively, exhaust gas temperature may be estimated based on the time Δt2 required for the element impedance increases to be reset to a value before conduction cut after conduction is resumed following to conduction cut.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the absorption of more than a specific amount of evaporated fuel to a canister, by momently detecting various parameters indicating that an internal combustion engine is in a condition having the possibility of the generation of the evaporated fuel, and predicting the trend of the increase of the purge amount in advance. SOLUTION: An operation value of a valve overlap amount is corrected by an ECU 41 for a variable valve timing mechanism, corresponding to a fuel tank internal temperature detected by a parameter indicating that a generation amount of the evaporated fuel discharged from a fuel tank 80 has the trend of increase, that is, a fuel tank temperature sensor 36, among the parameters indicating the operating conditions detected by various sensors. That is, when it is judged that the evaporated fuel discharged from the fuel tank 80 has the trend of increase, the valve overlap amount is corrected so that at least the opening timing of an intake valve 9 is lagged. Whereby the generated negative pressure of the intake passage 7 is increased, and the purge is accelerated.
