PROCESS:An aniline derivative of formula II is reacted with 1-methylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid or a reactive derivative thereof at about (1:1)-(2:1) molar ratio to give the compound of formulaI. An acid halide, anhydride, etc. may be cited as the reactive derivative thereof.

An N-[(un)substituted]-alpha-cyano-3-phenoxybenzylamine solution in benzene in an amount equivalent to the acid chloride is dropped to the reaction mixture and stirred at room temperature overnight.
