PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment composition having a liquid crystalline property and a high dichroism. SOLUTION: This liquid crystalline dichroic azo pigment expressed by general formula (I) [wherein, Ar 1 , Ar 3 are each an aromatic hydrocarbon or aromatic heterocyclic ring each of which may have a substituent; Ar 2 is a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon or divalent aromatic heterocyclic hydrocarbon which may have a substituent; (n) is an integer of ≥1; and in the case that (n) is ≥2, a plurality of Ar 2 s may be the same or different] and having ≥150 and ≤300°C nematic phase-developing temperature during a temperature elevating process is provided, and further the liquid crystalline composition containing at least one of the liquid crystalline dichroic azo pigment and having ≥120°C nematic phase-developing temperature during a temperature elevating process of the composition is provided. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid for generating polarizing film capable of maintaining transmittance high and having high intrafilm uniformity of transmittance, and a polarizing film generated from the coating liquid. SOLUTION: The coating liquid for generating polarizing film includes a lyotropic liquid crystal compound (A) having optical absorption property in a visible light region of ≥400 nm wavelength, a lyotropic liquid crystal compound (B) having no or low optical absorption property in a visible light region of ≥400 nm wavelength, and a solvent which dissolves the lyotropic liquid crystal compound (A) and the lyotropic liquid crystal compound (B).
