Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a human growth hormone crystal capable of obtaining human growth hormone (hGH) stably operating in a long term. SOLUTION: The stable, extended release crystals of human growth hormone or a human growth hormone derivative and compositions or formulations comprises such crystals. Further, a method for producing those crystals and compositions is provided. Further, a method is provided for treatment of an individual having disorders which are associated with human growth hormone deficiency or which are ameliorated by treatment with human growth hormone, by using those crystals and compositions or formulations. The crystal of human growth hormone or a human growth hormone derivative or the composition or formulation including the crystal has a number of advantages (including single weekly introduction of medication, possible application in a crystal suspension form, safety, efficacy, purity, stability, resuspension possibility, and syringe availability in short time). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst having high activity in an organic solvent, in regard to application of biocatalysis technology for performing selected chemical reactions. SOLUTION: A crosslinked protein crystal formulation has activity in an organic solvent or aqueous-organic solvent mixture and of at least about 1.7 times based on that of equivalent volume of protein in one of a crude form or a refined form. A crosslinked protein crystal formulation has activity in an organic solvent or aqueous-organic solvent mixture of from about 1.7 times to about 90 times based on that of equivalent volume of protein in one of a crude form or a refined form. A crosslinked protein crystal formulation has specific activity per 1 mg in an organic solvent or aqueous-organic solvent mixture of at least about 4.3 times based on that of protein in one of a crude form or a refined form and the like. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sustained-release composition of several kinds of protein crystals. SOLUTION: There are provided complexes of protein crystals and ionic polymers and compositions comprising such complexes. Methods for producing these complexes and compositions are also provided. Further, methods for treatment of an individual having a disease requiring or ameliorated by sustained release of protein-based therapies are provided. Amphoteric property of the protein is used to develop the sustained-release compositions of several kinds of protein crystals.
