Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron-based alloy material which allows immersion of nitrogen into the surface of the iron-based alloy material without use of ammonia, reduces void even after quenching and is surface-hardened and its production method.SOLUTION: A work-piece of an iron-based alloy material based on iron in a state of being heated to 590°C or higher is subjected to a plasma immersion treatment while nitrogen gas is supplied without supply of hydrogen to form a nitrogen diffusion layer in which nitrogen is immersed into the vicinity of the surface layer, and then the work-piece is cooled rapidly from the temperature of 590°C or higher to form martensite in the nitrogen diffusion layer. The nitrogen diffusion layer can contain 0.1-1.2 mass% of nitrogen immersed.
