    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in high yield by use of a solvent free from any biological risk as compared to the conventional methods. SOLUTION: This method for producing the subject compound comprises reacting a compound of formula I (M and M are each H, sodium, potassium or ammonium) with a chloride of formula II ((y) is 0-18, preferably 7, 10, 12, 14, 16 or their mixture) in an amount of not more than 95% mol equivalent to the compound of formula I in a water/polar organic solvent mixture, along with a base, e.g. NaOH or KOH sufficient in quantity to give a disalt form of a compound of formula III [R is a 1-20C alkyl, a 2-20C (unsaturated)alkenyl or a 2-20C (unsaturated)alkynyl; (x) is 0-10, especially 1-4], (especially preferably N-lauroylglutamic acid where R is 11C undecyl group and (x) is 2) at pH9-13 within the range of 0-10 deg.C, followed by adding the disalt form of formula III to HCl solution to form the objective compound of formula III.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fibrous structure highly packed, having permeability, strong and hard, and useful as, e.g. a filter, by sticking functional fine particles through hot-melt adhesion into the gaps of a thermally bound fiber matrix uniform as a whose followed by compression treatment. SOLUTION: Functional fine particles are stuck at regular intervals in a three-dimensional way into the gaps of a thermally bound fiber matrix uniform as a whole containing low-melting component-contg. crimped conjugate fibers. The resultant fiber matrix is then sized by calendering or pressing, thus obtaining the objective strong, hard and thin fibrous structure >=0.25g/cm in the packing degree of the functional fine particles and >100l/cm /h in air permeability at 200Pa.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain the subject compound useful for producing medicines and agrochemicals with excellent yield and purity without requiring severe reactional conditions by using a catalytic transfer hydrogenation. SOLUTION: (A) A 1,3-dihydroxybenzene compound such as a compound represented by formula I [R, R to R are each H, a 1-6C alkyl(oxy), a 3-6C cyclic alkyl, F, CF3 , etc.] is reduced with (D) a hydrogen donor such as a 3-6C secondary alcohol or formic acid (sodium formate) in the presence of (B) a metallic catalyst which is platinum, palladium, rhodium or ruthenium (e.g. the one with a carrier such as carbon, alumina or silica) and (C) a solvent such as water or a 1-6C alcohol to provide a salt of the corresponding 1,3-diketone compound. The resultant salt is then neutralized with (E) an acid to afford the objective compound such as a compound represented by formula II.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the packing workability, by preparing a reusable packing kit in which a mushroom and a looped fastener are arranged along respective edges and compacting fiber after the fiber has been contained in the kit and connecting the mushroom to the looped fastener to pack the kit. SOLUTION: This packing kit 10 containing a fiber material 12 to be packed, in composed of the top cap 14, the bottom cap 16 and the side wall 18. The top cap 14 and the bottom cap 16 are rectangular materials with respective edges arranged along the four sides. And fasteners are fixed to respective edges. This fastener has a looped shape and mushroom Haaks (hooks) can be used instead of the fasteners. The side wall 18 is a nearly rectangular piece with edges at which the fasteners are arranged. These fasteners are provided with edges to fit to the fasteners. The side walls 18 are fastened to the fiber materia 12 and the top cap 14 and the bottom cap 16.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject photodegradable cellulose ester tow that can minimize the problem on refuse disposal caused by throwing away cigarette butts, having the filter made of cellulose ester tow, on the waysides by allowing the cellulose ester tow to include titanium dioxide with a small average particle size and a large specific surface area. SOLUTION: Titanium dioxide having an average particle size of =50 m /g is admixed to cellulose ester in an amount of about 0.05-5.0 wt.% to prepare the objective photodegradable cellulose ester tow. In a preferred embodiment, uncoated anatase having an average particle size of /g is used as a titanium dioxide for this purpose. The resultant fiber is photodegraded in about 300 hours.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive photoresist having combinedly excellent thermal stability, high resolution and high contrast by containing a light intensifier and novolak resin which is manufactured by condensing phenol and the like and a specific aldehyde mixture and has a specific hydroxyl value. SOLUTION: An effective quantity of novolak resin as a binder whose hydroxyl content is low, an image forming quantity of light intensifier and a solvent are contained. This novolak resin has a hydroxyl value of 120 to 180 grams per an equivalent of hydroxyl. This novolak resin is manufactured by condensing phenol, a phenol devivative or the like, formaldehyde or its precursor and an aldehyde mixture containing either of (1) monhydroxy armoatic aldehyde having a hydroxyl group by esterifying the novolak resin so that an aliphatic or aromatic ester groups exists as a hydroxyle group instead of a hydrogen atom or (2) a mixture of this aldehyde and non-hydroxyl aromatic aldehyde.
