摘要: PURPOSE: To obtain an optical frequency conversion element having an waveguide layer consisting of x active ferroelctric liquid crystal by applying an optical element in which the periodical length of three-dimensional structure is specified. CONSTITUTION: In the optical element for effectively generating short wave laser light by frequency conversion through the waveguide layer, the waveguide layer consists of a ferroelectric layer x single active monomer or polymer liquid crystal material having periodcal structure for attaining the false phase matching of a led laser beam and the periodical length of the three-dimensional structure is equal to twice of the coherence length 1c=π/Δβ of the material (in the equation, Δβ=βo(2ω)-2βo(ω), provided that ω=angular frequency of basic wave, o = zero-order mode and β=propagation constant of mode). Polymer surface processing coating layers 3, 5 having low refractive indexes are stuck to the surfaces of electrode layers, ferroelectric liquid crystal 4 is arranged between the two coated plates and the thickness of the liquid crystal is fixed by a separating member.
