    Abstract: PURPOSE:To save and conserve underground resources or water resources while reducing the use amount of cooling water and conserving energy by using yeast belonging to the genus Kluyveromyces and having heat resistance, flocculative properties and waste water treatment capacity. CONSTITUTION:Waste water of every kind, highly nutritive waste water, a diluted liquid thereof or a pretreated liquid thereof subjected to filtration, centrifugal separation or chemical treatment is inoculated with bacteria belonging to the genus Kluyveromyces to treat waste water. By treating even highly nutritive waste water difficult to treat heretofore with heat-resistant bacteria belonging to the genus Kluyveromyces, said waste water can be treated industrially in large quantities for the first time. By the use of said yeast, operation at high temp. wherein the liquid temp. of a yeast tank is as high as about 45 deg.C becomes possible for the first time and, as a result, the use amount of cooling water is reduced and the temp. of cooling water may be roughly controlled and the sharp conservation and saving of the energy of other cooling means can be achieved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make efficient waste water treatment, by subjecting non- aggregating yeast for waste water treatment to a mutagenesis treatment then culturing the yeast, separating and growing the concd. aggregating variant and treating the waste water with the aggregating variant. CONSTITUTION:The non-aggregating yeast for waste water treatment (e.g., Hansenula Anolama J45-0) is subjected to the mutagenesis treatment such as UV irradiation and is then cultured. The fungus bodies settled quickly by gravity settlement or the fungus bodies sticking to the wall of a test tube are inoculated to a fresh medium and are cultured. The concd. aggregating variant is separated and grown by repeating the above-mentioned culture operation and the waste water is treated by such aggregating variant. As a result, the high yeast density is maintained and the org. materials in the waste water are efficiently decomposed; in addition, the nitrogen and phosphorus in the waste water are removed as well. Furthermore, this aggregating variant has the nature to stick well to carriers such as active carbon, polystyrene beads and disks and, therefore, the efficient waste water treatment is permitted by sticking the aggregating variant to the carrier.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance a solid-liq. separation effect on the waste water having a high content of org. matter with a simple method by treating the waste water, etc., from a food production process with flocculating yeast and a flocculant. CONSTITUTION:Waste water from a food production process is treated with flocculating yeast, and then added with a flocculant. Alternatively, the yeast and flocculant can be simultaneously added. Hansenula-anomala (The Microbiological Research Institute's report No.7671) can be exemplified as the yeast. The waste water treatment by the yeast is preferably carried out at pH3-8 and 10-36 deg.C. A cationic high molecular flocculant, an anionic high molecular flocculant, etc., are appropriately used as the flocculant, and the amt. of the flocculant to be added is appropriately controlled to 0.02-8% based on the solid matter.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the present urease capable of completely decomposing urea which causes the deterioration of liquors or unrefined liquors, by culturing a specific microbial strain capable of producing urease and separating the produced urease. CONSTITUTION:The objective urease can be produced by culturing a urease- producing microbial strain belonging to genus Pseudomonas and having optimum reaction pH in acidic region (e.g., FERM P-9793) and collecting the urease produced in the microbial cell and/or in the culture liquid. The culture is preferably carried out in a medium having a pH of 5.5-7.8 at about 30 deg.C for 5-72hr.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a matured refined rice wine lees without change of unfavorable coloration, etc., due to maturation by autodigesting in a short time a specified temperature sensitive yeast obtained by mutagenesis treatment of the yeast in a refined rice wine lees. CONSTITUTION:A yeast, e.g. Saccharomyces cerevisiae J504 is initially subjected to mutagenesis treatment to obtain a temperature sensitive yeast normally growing within an allowable temperature range (10-30 deg.C) and performing alcohol fermentation while dying out and autodigesting in an unallowable temperature range (35-40 deg.C). The above-mentioned temperature sensitive yeast is then autodigested in a refined rice wine lees at a temperature within the unallowable temperature range to mature the refined rice wine lees in a short time. As the above-mentioned temperautre sensitive yeast, e.g. K-ts 8 strain (Bikokenstipulation No.11736) derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae J504 is exemplified.
