Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreceptor having satisfactory electrostatic charging properties, reduced residual potential, excellent repeated stability and environmental properties, and free from image defects such as moire and fogging. SOLUTION: The photoreceptor includes an undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer which are sequentially formed on an electrically conductive support. The undercoat layer contains two or more kinds of acicular titanium oxides with different dimensions and a binder resin, and the blending ratio (weight) of them is 10/90 to 99/1. The average value of the aspect ratios of the acicular titanium oxides is 1.5 to 300, and the volume resistance value in a green compact under the press pressure of 100 kg/cm 2 in the acicular titanium oxides is 10 5 to 10 10 Ω cm. The acicular titanium oxides each contains large acicular titanium oxides in which the length of a minor axis is 0.03 to 0.25 μm and the length of a major axis is 0.1 to 5 μm, and small acicular titanium oxides in which the length of a minor axis is 0.01 to 0.06 μm and the length of a major axis is 0.03 to 0.3 μm, and the blending ratio (weight) of them is 90/10 to 10/90. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in sensitivity characteristics and electrification characteristics and having practically sufficient performance in stability even for repeated use. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor is a layered type one having a base coating layer, a charge generating layer and a charge transfer layer deposited on a conductive base body. The base coating layer contains acicular and/or dendritic titanium oxide particles. The charge generating layer is formed by using a butyral resin expressed by general formula [X] as a binder resin. The charge transfer layer contains one or more kinds of charge transfer materials selected from styryl compounds expressed by general formula [A], aromatic diamine compounds expressed by general formula [B] or aminostilbene compounds expressed by formula [C]. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an image with practically sufficient electric and mechanical performances and high durability. SOLUTION: In the method for forming an image by electrifying the surface of an electrophotographic photoreceptor to form an electrostatic latent image and then developing and transferring the electrostatic latent image to form an image, the photosensitive layer of the electrophotographic photoreceptor used contains a polymer compound having the structural unit expressed by general formula (1). The electrostatic charge image formed on the electrophotographic photoreceptor is developed and visualized by using a toner prepared by externally adding an irregular magnetic material particles to color particles composed of at least a binder resin and a coloring agent. In formula (1), each of R , R , R , R , R , R , R and R represents a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, 1-6C alkyl group which may have substituents, 4-10C cyclic hydrocarbon group which may have substituents or aryl group which may have substituents.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having excellent sensitivity and electrification characteristics, high stability of these characteristics for repeated use and practically sufficient performances. SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic photoreceptor, titanium oxide particles at least either in an acicular form or dendritic form are incorporated into the base coating layer on the conductive base body. A butyral resin expressed by general formula (1) is incorporated as a binder resin into the charge generating layer. A polymer compound having the structural unit expressed by general formula (2) is incorporated as a binder resin into the charge transfer layer. In formula (1), R 0 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or an ethyl group and each of j, k, l and m represents an integer. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreceptor free from image deletion and chipping in a cleaning blade and capable of suppressing generation of exposure unevenness for a long period of time, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the photoreceptor and responding to demands for reduction in size and in cost.SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor includes a conductive substrate 11, a charge generating layer 12, a filler-containing charge transporting layer 13, and a surface-side charge transporting layer 14. The filler-containing charge transporting layer 13 contains a charge transporting material and filler particles 2 having an average primary particle diameter of 0.06 μm or more and 0.3 μm or less. The surface-side charge transporting layer 14 layered on the filler-containing charge transporting layer 13 contains the charge transporting material but no filler particles 2.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily remove a vibration control member from a photosensitive drum by employing a simple structure.SOLUTION: An electrophotographic photoreceptor mainly comprises: a photosensitive drum 302 including a photosensitive layer 309 formed on a cylindrical conductive supporting base 301; a vibration control member 303 made of a resin and adhered to both ends of the photosensitive drum 302 with an electrically-releasing adhesive 311; and a flange 304 inserted into the end. The vibration control member 303 includes a disk-shaped portion 303a having an outer diameter set to be sufficiently small to be fit in the photosensitive drum 302. The vibration control member 303 is molded from a resin or the like. A conductive sheet 315 of a metal such as aluminum, copper or platinum is adhered onto an outer circumference of the disk-shaped portion 303a with an adhesive, so as to work as a conductive portion of the vibration control member 303.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having excellent mechanical/electric durability even in long-term repeated use and having high durability without inducing an abnormal image, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the photoreceptor.SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor comprises: a conductive support; and a laminate A formed thereon including a photosensitive layer comprising at least a charge generating layer and a charge transporting layer, layered in this order from the conductive support side; or a laminate B formed on the support, including a photosensitive layer comprising a charge generating layer and a charge transporting layer layered in this order from the conductive support side, and a surface protective layer formed on the photosensitive layer. The charge transporting layer of the laminate A or the surface protective layer of the laminate B, functioning as an outermost surface layer, contains hollow silica as an improving agent for wear resistance.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily carry out an operation for exchange of a ball bearing attached to a developing apparatus.SOLUTION: A developing apparatus 24 includes: a developer tank 2 for storing the developer; a rotatable sleeve 5a installed to be rotatable inside the developer tank; a second shaft 72 attached to the rotatable sleeve 5a; a conductive member 80 fitted into the developer tank 2; and a ball bearing 90 for supporting the second shaft 72 to be rotatable. The ball bearing 90 has a conductive region on its outer surface and is supported by the conductive member 80 by having the conductive region and the conductive member 80 adhered with an electric conduction releasable adhesive.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not induce failure in the image quality caused by cleaning failure even for long term use by specifying the surface free energy of a photoreceptor and the hardness and blade load of a cleaning blade. SOLUTION: The photoreceptor 2 installed in an image forming apparatus 1 and forming an electrostatic latent image by exposure to light in accordance with image information is specified to have 28 to 35 mN/m surface free energy (γ). The cleaning blade 31a mounted in a cleaning device 31 to remove a foreign matter such as toner remaining on the surface of the photoreceptor 2 is specified to have 55 to 85 degrees of the spring-type hardness, and 5 to 40 gf/cm of blade load.
