PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device and a developing method, wherein more accurate preliminary stirring time can be decided. SOLUTION: A humidity sensor 5 detects humidity in a developing tank, and a toner replenishment control part 44 calculates replenishing time when the developing device 1 is replenished with developer for replenishment from a replenishing device 2 based on input image data. A cumulative dot count time arithmetic calculation part 46 calculates developing time required for developing an electrostatic latent image based on input image data, and a part 47 measuring the time elapsed from the previous stirring time. A control part 40 decides the preliminary stirring time based on the detected humidity, the calculated replenishing time, the calculated developing time and the measured time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes a document feed means 30, a document reading means 31, an image forming means 32, a paper ejection means 33, a paper supply means 34, a patch density detection means (not shown), and a toner density adjusting means for adjusting the density of the toner image according to the result of detection by the patch density detection means. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position adjusting device for a cleaning member capable of disposing the cleaning member to the appropriate position not causing uneven wear of a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: A light emitting means emits light to the cleaning member held by a hold means 2, and light reflected by the cleaning member is detected by a reflected-light detection means 6. A calculating means 8 calculates information about the position of the cleaning member from the result of the detection by the reflected-light detection means. The operation of a drive means 9 controlled based on the result of the calculation drives the cleaning member to the appropriate position not causing uneven wear of the photoreceptor. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that obtains a satisfactory image by preventing dielectric breakdown of the surface of a photoreceptor drum even when a high voltage electrifying bias is directly applied to the photoreceptor drum. SOLUTION: The electrifying bias is uniformly applied to the surface of the photoreceptor drum by aerial discharge of the electrifying roller 121 of an electrifying device 12 of a non-contact system. The electrifying bias is such that an AC voltage with the positive polarity whose inter-peak voltage is 1.8 kVpp overlaps a discharge initiation voltage of -600 V with the negative polarity which is the same as the polarity used for electrifying the photoreceptor drum 11. Before the application of the electrifying bias, the photoreceptor drum is preliminarily electrified with the electrifying bias of a stir brush 16, which is set to the negative polarity that is lower than the electrifying bias used for electrifying the photoreceptor drum by the electrifying roller and that is the same polarity as the polarity used for electrifying the photoreceptor drum. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which obtains a high picture quality regardless of variance of the resistance value of a transfer means at the time of continuous both-face printing. SOLUTION: An image forming device 1 is provided with a printing condition generation means 11 which generates a printing condition related to variance of the resistance value of a transfer roll 7, a resistance value estimation part 26 which estimates the resistance value of the transfer roll 7, and a control means 10 which corrects the resistance value of the transfer roll 7 on the basis of information given from the printing condition generation means 11 and the resistance value estimation part 26. The control means 10 updates a transfer bias on the basis of the resistance value of the transfer roll 7, so that the image forming device 1 can apply the most suitable transfer bias to the transfer roll 7 at any time in each transfer. Since the control means 10 updates the applied transfer bias in accordance with variance of the resistance value of the transfer roll 7, the image forming device 1 prevents a transfer defect to keep a satisfactory picture quality.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes a charging device 22 which charges a photoreceptor drum 21, a developing device 24 which develops an electrostatic latent image formed on the drum 21, a developing bias application device 244 which applies a developing bias voltage to the developing device 24, a toner image density sensor 50 which detects an image density of a toner image formed on the drum 21, and a control part 200 which controls the output value of the application device 244.
