The promoter for production and/or secretion of antimicrobial substances uses extracts from edible mushrooms and ergothioneine as active constituents and has high safety. Also, the promoter for production and secretion of antimicrobial substances promotes the production and secretion of antimicrobial substances in a Paneth cell in a living body, so that immunization in the living body can be activated and also diseases can be prevented and treated.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new ACE inhibitor having extremely high safety, and a new hypotensive agent having extremely high safety. SOLUTION: The ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor contains a pentitol or a hexitol as an active ingredient. The most preferable active ingredients are mannitol and xylitol. Also, the ACE inhibitor and the hypotensive agent each contains the extract of Pleurotus comucopiae as an active ingredient. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antifungal agent having excellent antifungal activity such as antiproliferative effects of bacillus and, as derived from Pleurotus cornucopiae of an edible mushroom, so having excellent safety; to provide a β-defensin production promotor capable of promoting, in human being, production of various kinds of human β-defensin; and to provide a candidiasis-preventing and/or treating agent.SOLUTION: The antifungal agent contains one or more substances selected from the group consisting of aqueous solvent extracts of the Pleurotus cornucopiae, glucosylceramide extracted from the Pleurotus cornucopiae, ergothioneine extracted from the Pleurotus cornucopiae, and ergosterol peroxide extracted from the Pleurotus cornucopiae, as active ingredients.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new skin-moisturizing agent/dermatitis-therapeutic agent which little produces side effects and can be used for long periods. SOLUTION: This skin-moisturizing agent/dermatitis-therapeutic agent contains a ceramide originated from Tamogi-dake (a mushroom belonging to Pleurotus) as an active ingredient. The ceramide originated from Tamogi-dake has an effect for inhibiting the production of two kinds of chemokine, namely chemokine CCL1 from Langerhans cells, and dermatitis-inducing chemokine CCL27 from surface Keratinocytes.
