Abstract: A heat shrinkable tubular closure sleeve (204) having a riveted longitudinal seam. The sleeve (204) is formed from a sheet (100) comprising two longitudinal margin portions (102, 104) having a strip (120) of oriented, heat shrinkable material therebetween. Specifically, the two margin portion (102, 104) are overlapped and joined by rivets (202), each rivet (202) passing through a hole (106, 114) in each of the overlapping margin portions (102, 104). Each margin portion (102, 104) comprises a laminate (108) having a metal layer (130) sandwiched between two plastic layers (132, 134) which do not shrink when heat is applied. Placing the tubular sleeve (204) over a cylindrical article (200) and applying heat to the sleeve (204), the strip (120) shrinks to reduce the radius of the sleeve (204) to effectuate a tight wrap around the article (200).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stabilize heat-shrinkable properties and to enhance production efficiency, by fusion bonding a heat shrinkable layer constituting material and a fusion bonded layer constituting material while sending a high temp. heating medium into a pipe in such a state that a pair of ribs are pressed to the surface of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:After a fusion bonding layer constituting material 13 is wound around a pipe 10 in a necessary thickness, the circumferences of ribs 6 are pressed to mutually closely adhere a plate like protruded part 11, the fusion bonded layer constituting material 13 and a heat shrinkable layer constituting material 14. Subsequently, a high temp. heating medium is sent into the fluid passage 12 of the pipe to fusion bond the fusion bonded layer constituting material 13 while heating the same to a fusion bonding temp. In the next step, a low temp. heating medium is passed through the fluid passage 12 of the pipe 10 to cool both constituting materials 13, 14 through the pipe 10 to solidify the fusion bonded part and, upon the detachement from the pipe 10, a heat shrinkable sheet 3 having a fusion bonded layer 3a and a heat shrinkable layer 3b and having a specific configuration in the vicinity of a pair of the ribs 6 is obtained.

Abstract: A wrap-around device for enclosing at least part of an elongate substrate such as a pipe comprises a dimensionally-recoverable cover, preferably a dimensionally heat-recoverable cover (2) having an adhesive closure arrangement comprising two closure portions (3, 4) which can be brought into abutment to form an adhesive bond but which, when pulled in a direction away from each other after the adhesive bond has been formed, will change in configuration to form a lap joint. The device according to the invention enables an adhesive wrap-around device to be installed about a substrate in a simple manner without the possibility of misalignment of the closure portions.

Abstract: Recoverability is induced into a material by a first expansion which is unidirectional but uniform, and then by a second expansion which produces pleats, and may increase in extent across the surface of the material. The material can be used to form pipe branch-offs, pipe bends or used as a tape for sealing pipe branch-offs or splice cases. A material for producing a branch-off comprises a first portion 1, and a second portion 2 which has been differentially expanded by pleating. The material is wrapped-around to form a tube; the portion 2 splays out to form a collar which can overly a hole in a main conduit, the portion 1 serving as a branch-off conduit.
