PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion device capable of repeatedly detecting expansion and contraction remarkably larger than that of conventional arts, in view of the problem that, because a conventional expansion device of metal, semiconductor, or the like detecting expansion and contraction does not use a member capable of sufficiently expanding and contracting, the expansion and contraction allowing repeated detection is limited to about 5%. SOLUTION: The expansion device includes an oriented CNT film structure including a plurality of CNTs arranged on an expandable and contractible substrate and contractible in a prescribed direction.
