    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and stably producing acrolein and acrylic acid, or methacrolein and methacrylic acid at a high yield by preventing occurrence of an abnormal reaction due to considerable temperature rise on the material gas outlet side in comparison with the material gas inlet side of an Mo-Bi-Ni-Co-Fe type catalyst packed in a reaction tube during the vapor-phase contact oxidation of propylene, isobutylene and the like.SOLUTION: In the method for producing acrolein and acrylic acid, or methacrolein and methacrylic acid: (A) Mo-Bi-Ni-Co-Fe type catalysts are used; (B) a plurality of catalyst layers divided along the material gas flow direction of a reaction tube are formed; (C) a plurality of types of catalysts are arranged so that the activity is increased from the material inlet part toward the outlet part in the material gas flow direction; and (D) the activity is regulated by burning temperature of the catalysts and a mixture of a catalyst and an inert substance is used at least in the position closest to the material inlet side.
