    SOLUTION: A spherical small ball retainer 42 arranged around a large ball 41 is composed of an upper small ball retaining piece 42a and a lower small ball retaining piece 42b which are composed by dividing a hollow sphere having an opening on at least either of upper/lower parts into the upper/lower parts by a virtual flat surface perpendicular to a vertically-extending shaft passing the center of the sphere. The spherical bearing comprises the large ball 41, the spherical small ball retainer 42, a plurality of small balls 44 rotatably retained by the spherical small ball retainer 42, and a housing 46 having a spherical hollow part 45 having an opening on at least either of the upper/lower parts and storing the spherical small ball retainer together with a plurality of the small balls. The both small ball retaining pieces, made of resin material, are mutually joined by engagement between a projection 58 provided for one retaining piece and a concave part 59 provided for the other retaining piece.

It is characterized in that the small ball retaining pieces (52a, 52b) are mutually joined by a joining means (57) via respective dividing faces.

In such device, the above described ring-shape insert 38 is to be constructed by a self-lubricating shoe material 72 and a ring material 70.
