PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose type measuring device suitable for measuring the whole plant which is improved so as to be more suitable by the study of plan, and not mechanically complicated. SOLUTION: The measuring device for measuring the bioluminescence, chemiluminescence or fluorescence of an object equipped with a light-resistant housing 10 enclosing a measuring chamber K, and a highly sensitive camera 40 for monitoring the inside of the measuring chamber K is characterized in that a rotary shaft 24 for arranging a rotary disk 20 vertically extends in the measuring chamber K and the sight line of the camera 40 is virtually pointed toward a lateral direction in a first operating state. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method of ballast water for accurately inspecting the population of L-size organisms and S-size organisms included in ballast water in a short time.SOLUTION: A method of inspecting microorganisms included in ballast water includes the steps of: inspecting the population of microorganisms with the minimum size of 50 μm or more on the basis of image data obtained by a scanner; and inspecting the population of microorganisms with the minimum size of 10 μm and more and less than 50 μm by a method other than that based on the image data obtained by a scanner.

PURPOSE:To enable evaluation of large sea weeds accurately and simply in a short time, by collating measured intensity value of fluorescence from a sample piece with the fluorescent intensity-quality inspection curve preset. CONSTITUTION:Among pigments of sea weeds such as chlorophyl (A), (b) or (c), phycoerythrin, phycocyanine, carotenoid and the like, the most effective one for the sea weed involved viewed from the intensity of fluorescence and the correlation between this and the quality is selected as measuring pigment. The intensity of fluorescence is higher in terms of pigment activity for the higher quality of sea weeds, rising in proportion to the quality almost linearly. Thus, in this invention, a fluorescence intensity-quality curve is determined to set a calibration curve and the evaluation of quality is done based on the curve.
