PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transporting inventory items.SOLUTION: The method for transporting inventory items includes a step for determining an assignment state of a mobile drive unit. The method also includes a steep for selecting a location for the mobile drive unit based on the assignment state of the mobile drive unit according to determination that the mobile drive unit does not currently complete a task. The method further includes a step for transmitting information to the mobile drive unit identifying the selected location.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation management system and method for a self-propelled carrier whose location and traveling information can be consolidated both in normal and abnormal running states of the self-propelled carrier with a simple system. SOLUTION: This operation management system includes: a plurality of magnetic marker 3 arranged along a traveling magnetic tape 1; a marker detection meas 4 for detecting and counting-up the magnetic marker 3 installed in a self-propelled carrier 2; a traveling abnormality monitoring means 5 installed in a self-propelled carrier 2; and an operation monitor device 7 connected through a communication means to the self-propelled carrier 2 for receiving the detection content of the magnetic marker detection means from the self-propelled carrier 2 and the operating state of the abnormal state monitoring means 5, and for displaying the location and traveling information of the self-propelled carrier 2. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize man-hours for teaching the stop position correction of a carriage. SOLUTION: An OHT carriage 300 grips a FOUP and travels along rails 520a-520f placed on a ceiling. A carried object storage shelf 200 is provided under the rails 520a-520f. A plurality of master bar codes are pasted to the rails 520a-520f at predetermined intervals. On the carried object storage shelf 200, a plurality of positioning plates are arranged having a plurality of kinematic pins. The individual positioning plates are relatively arranged between the individual master bar codes pasted thereto at predetermined intervals. An error amount between the coordinate of one positioning plate and the coordinate of the gripper of the OHT carriage 300 stopped in accordance with one master bar code relatively arranged is recorded in a correction device, and a control means develops the error amount to the other carried object storage shelf or master bar code.
