PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for accuracy at arrangement positions of respective document detection parts which detect an end of a document, wile making a correct document conveyance control available according to a document inclination by accurately detecting the document inclination.SOLUTION: A document conveyance mechanism 6 comprises: a first document detection sensor 661; a second document detection sensor 662 arranged at a different position than the first document detection sensor 661 in both a document conveyance direction and a perpendicular direction thereto; a pulse number detection part 101 which detects a pulse signal number for a drive control of a driving device M; a determination part 102 which determines whether or not a pulse number detected by the pulse number detection part 101 is over a predetermined value in the period from when the end of the document is detected by either of the sensors 661, 662, to when the end of the document is detected by the other sensor; and a control part 100 which stops the driving device M when the detected pulse number is determined to be over the predetermined value.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reader, an image forming apparatus, a document reader control method, and a document reader control program capable of accurately detecting the opened/closed state of conveying means for conveying a document.SOLUTION: A digital complex machine comprises: a scanner part 13 that reads an image at a document reading position 257; a document holding cover 20 that can change the closed state in which the scanner part 13 is covered to the opened state in which the scanner part 13 is exposed or vice versa and conveys a document 290a to the scanner part 13 when the cover is in the closed state; a resist sensor 256 that detects a tip part P1 and a rear end part P2 of the document 290a conveyed by the document holding cover 20; and a control device that determines the opened/closed state of the document holding cover 20 based on the states of the tip part P1 and the rear end part P2 of the document 290a in the image read by an IR module 201 when a predetermined time elapses after the detection state of the resist sensor 256 changed.

In an apparatus having a document reading portion for reading an image of a document on a document platen, by reading an image of a document on a display screen using an area sensor, it's not necessary to set a document for reading on the platen so that the document is prevented from being left behind, and even when a document on the platen and the document sticks out of the platen to extend over the screen, it is possible to prevent the document on the screen is erroneously read. When detecting a document on the platen and detecting that an object on the screen does not have a standard size by the area sensor, a control portion of the apparatus controls so that the document reading portion reads the image of the document on the platen and the area sensor is prohibited from reading the image.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the necessity for setting a document to be read-out to prevent the document from being left behind by reading an image of the document on a display screen of the display portion by an area sensor independently of image reading on a document platen, and to prevent the document on the display portion from being erroneously read even if the document set on the document platen extends beyond the document platen and is laid over the display screen in a document reading apparatus having a document reading part reading an image on the document set on the document platen. SOLUTION: When detecting the document on the platen and detecting that an object on the screen of the display portion 401a does not have a standard size by the area sensor 401b, a control portion (exemplified by a main CPU 101) of the document reading apparatus controls so that the document reading portion 300 reads the image of the document on the platen and the area sensor 401b is prohibited from reading the image of the document.
