Wi-Fi signals from Wi-Fi access points are detected and identity information of the Wi-Fi access point, which was detected in conjunction with GPS location information of the vehicle, is recorded. A user device having a Wi-Fi radio device may be located. A reference database of calculated locations of Wi-Fi access points in a target area is provided. The database may be updated using newly-added position information for improving the quality of previously determined position information to avoid error-prone data.
