PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fastener which can be installed in a workpiece by either swaging or torquing methods so that the number of types of fasteners used by manufacturers can be reduced.SOLUTION: Provide is a fastener (20) installed in a workpiece (28) by either a swaging operation or a torquing operation. The fastener includes an enlarged protruding head (22) which is proximal to a substantially cylindrical smooth shank portion (30). A threaded shank portion (38) positioned distally to the smooth shank portion includes a male thread which is sufficiently strong to have a swage collar (46) swaged onto it. Distal to the threaded shank portion is a pin tail portion (48) having a surface shaped to allow engagement with a tool. Positioned between the threaded shank portion and the pin tail portion is a bottleneck groove (50) having a lower tensile strength than any other portion of the fastener.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end dividing method capable of freely adjusting a slit length of a divided portion and forming a smooth divided surface, when horizontally dividing the end of a metal plate or a metal rod having either shape of rectangle, polygon and elliptical form, and to provide a metal component manufactured by the end dividing method and its joining method.SOLUTION: An end dividing method includes: a step of performing division with splitting or slotting in a horizontal direction, by holding at least two opposite parts of both sides of a metal plate or peripheries of a metal rod with a pressure die and performing press molding of splitting punch or slotting punch on one end side edge of the metal plate or the metal rod; and a step of further carrying on the division by repeating operation of press molding using the same punch to the slit portion of the division. The method is characterized by moving a position of at least one side pressure die every operation of each press molding in advance according to the distance from the end of one end surface of the metal plate or the metal rod to the distal end of the portion to be divided.
