CONSTITUTION: The objective compound can be produced by adding sodium sulfite to a saturated hydrocarbon (e.g. 8W24C n-paraffin), and reacting sulfur dioxide with oxygen under the radiation of light having a wavelength of ≤500nm using a high-pressure mercury lamp or low-pressure mercury lamp, etc. essentially in the absence of water, at -20W+200°C and 0W50atm. The amount of sodium sulfite is 0.1W10wt% based on the saturated hydrocarbon.
USE: Useful as a raw material of an alkanesulfonic acid salt which is a surfactant for synthetic detergent, etc.
