Abstract: PURPOSE: A surface modifying method of silica nanopowder is provided to control the hydrophobicity of the silica nanopowder by controlling the spray-heating temperature and the concentration of a surface modification agent. CONSTITUTION: A surface modifying method of silica nanopowder comprises the following steps: forming a silica suspension by mixing an ethanol solution with silica nanopowder and a surface modification agent(S100); spraying the silica suspension for forming spraying droplets(S110); heat-drying the droplets to form the surface modified silica nanopowder(S120); collecting the silica nanopowder(S130); and detecting the matter property of the silica nanopowder(S140).

Abstract: Embodiments of this invention comprise a pigment comprising one or more substantially spherical-shaped beads, wherein each substantially spherical-shaped bead comprises one or more high aspect ratio particles encapsulated within an encapsulating material. Embodiments also comprise a resinous composition comprising said pigment. Yet further embodiments comprise a method of preparing said pigment via suspension polymerization. The substantially spherical-shaped beads of this invention may be used to produce resinous compositions having a flowline-free colored, sparkling and/or metallescent appearance.
