    摘要: PURPOSE: A light emitting device is provided to enhance the light emitting efficiency of a light emitting element without giving any damage to the organic compound layer. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting device comprises a TFT provided over an insulation surface, an interlayer insulating film formed over the TFT, a pixel electrode(101) formed over the interlayer insulating film, an insulating film covering edge portions of the pixel electrode, a cathode(103) formed over the pixel electrode, a layer comprising an organic compound formed over the cathode, a protector(105) formed over the layer comprising an organic compound, and an anode(106) formed over the protector. The TFT comprises a source region and a drain region. The pixel electrode is electrically connected to either of the source region or the drain region at an opening formed in the interlayer insulating film. The protector consists of a material whose work function is in the range from 4.5 to 5.5 eV.
