Disclosed is a manufacturing method for alpha-sialon with improved luminescence properties. The present invention provides a manufacturing method for an alpha-sialon phosphor comprising: a step of manufacturing mixed powders by mixing a carbonate of an alkali earth metal or an alkali metal in Si_3N_4, AlN and a rare-earth metal compound; a step of heat-treating the mixed powders at a temperature of 650-800°C; and a step of synthesizing alpha-sialon by sintering the heat-treated mixed powders. The present invention is able to manufacture alpha-sialon with improved PL properties.
