The present invention relates to a transparent liquid crystal display device. The transparent liquid crystal display device may clearly form an image from a liquid crystal display device while clearly discriminating an object or an image located at an opposite side. A characteristic of the present invention is to form a liquid crystal layer of the transparent liquid crystal display device in a guest host mode in which a dichroic black dye is mixed and a O-mode; form first and second electrodes capable of forming a fringe field on a first substrate; further form a third electrode on a second substrate to form a vertical electric field through the first and third electrodes; and form dichroic color filters of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) using dichroic color dyes with specific polarization axis, so that light is selectively transmitted or blocked to implement a transparent state, a color state, and a black state. Accordingly, the transparent liquid crystal display device of the present invention may clearly form an image from the liquid crystal display device while clearly discriminating the object or the image located at the opposite side.

A signboard (1000) according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a case (80), and a polarization film (100) is arranged in the case (80) as a polarization means. A reflective means (40) like a mirror is arranged behind the polarization film (100) in the case (80). The polarization film (100) has multiple areas (120a, 120b, 181, 183), wherein the adjacent areas have different polarization directions from each other. Furthermore, the areas are included in characters (D and P). According to the present invention, the original shape consisting of the areas of the polarization film (100) is overlapped with the reflective shape consisting of the areas of the polarization film (100) displayed in the reflective means, thereby obtaining a specific display effect of displaying the contrast in the overlapped portion.

The device can be used as a construction material to efficiently regulate the internal temperature and illumination of buildings, vehicles, and other structures without the need for an external power supply or operator signals. The device has unique aesthetic optical properties that are not found in traditional windows, skylights, stained glass, light fixtures, glass blocks, bricks, or walls. The device can be tailored to transmit sufficient visible light to see through in both the transparent and reflective states, while still providing significant control over the total energy transmission across the device.
